Yay, surprise edit 🤫🎉🥳
I remain frozen as my heart pounds in my chest as I take in his appearance.
My instincts scream for me to move.
*run*
*Hit him* do something all the furniture was scurried down as though he had already been planning this for who knows how long.
I didn't move my body was encased in ice frozen still.
"Well, well, look who's decided to sulk instead of enjoy the comforts I've provided her," he says, his tone dripping with mockery and frustration. He steps down the stairs slowly and his bare feet make no sound on the concrete. "You really should take advantage of the things I give you, baby. It'll make your time here much more pleasant."
He tried to say nicely and suggestively his initial frustration almost gone within moments but I didn't care.
I cared about leaving, I didn't understand him. That's what scared me the most. His unpredictable nature and harshness and most importantly his possessiveness.
I gulp my spit hard and I force myself to meet his eyes. "I'm not here to be your prisoner, Gregory," I say defiantly. "You can't keep me like this forever."
He laughs lowly amused by the sound of me coming out dark and echoes in the dim light of the basement. "Ah, but I already have, haven't I?" He says as he takes another step to me, "You think you have a choice, baby? You're already mine. This is your home now."
His words sent a chill down my spine but I refused to let myself show fear. "You're wrong," I say as I shake my head. "This isn't home. This is a nightmare."
I mumbled as my tears began to pool in my eyes.
"Nightmares can become dreams, you know," he replies smoothly as though trying to comfort and reassure me and maybe even himself a little as he smiles. "All it takes is a little time and patience. I'm willing to wait. You'll see things my way soon enough."
I feel the urge to lunge for the door, but he reads my thoughts yet again. "Don't even think about it," he warns his voice dropping to a low growl. "You'll regret it if you do."
His eyes look through me, and I know he's not joking.
"Why are you doing this?" I ask desperation creeps into my voice. "What do you want from me?"
He tilts his head slightly as if considering my question. "I want you to understand, Madison. I'm giving you the life you need and deserve. You just don't realize it yet." He steps closer to me the action invades my personal space, and I instinctively lean back against the bed backing up away from him. "You need someone to take care of you. Someone who can show you what real love is, you just have to be here and I'll do the rest."
"Love?" I scoff at him as my heart pounds with anger. "This isn't love, Gregory. It's manipulation. It's abuse."
His expression darkens instantly the playful facade slips for a moment. "Watch your words, baby. You're treading on dangerous ice." He takes a step back and forces a smile. "But I'll give you another chance so choose your words carefully baby."
My heart races at his threat. I know that I need to be smart; I need to play along for now, to keep him off balance until I can find a way out.
"Fine," I say, trying to sound more confident than I feel. "I will choose my words more carefully,"
I say trying to keep the anger at bay.He raises an eyebrow, seemingly amused by my defiance. "That's the spirit! Just remember, Madison, I don't like being talked to like that, you're better than that."
"Better than that?!" I ask with a whispered shout frustrated did he know me?
"Yes better than that princess. I know everything about you. So yes you are better than that." He tells me sternly as though talking to a child who had reached into the cookie jar.
"How. How long have you been stalking me." I ask him carefully.
"I never stalked you. I just keep to safe falling in love with you was never part of the plan." He says almost offended.
"You have over 100 pictures of me on a wall that's stalking! How long!" I shout at him.
His face doesn't show a reaction for a moment.
"Baby you need to calm down and sit. I'll explain everything but first, you need to drop this attitude immediately this is the last time I will tell you to stop being a brat and being disrespectful. I'm not being rude to you so stop it now."
I sit in the bed and look at my nails.
"3 years ago is when I stated I was assigned cold cases as a rookie. I took off your parent's head-on collision case and I discovered that your parents faked their death. I was told to watch you to see if you would take me to them. To see if you knew. I started falling in love with you. How much you struggled by yourself. But I knew you weren't ready for anything. When you were I paid them to stand you up so I could buy time to make a perfect life for you, one that you deserve." He tells me.
"My parents are not dead," I say blankly and confused.
"Did you ever see their bodies?" He asks me.
"No the car caught on fire it was a closed casket funeral," I tell him still confused.
He opens a binder and throws it at me.
The exhume report and the DNA results didn't match. A few pages in I see my mom and dad sitting on the beach together.
One On a Boat. Living their best life in nice expensive clothing.
How
How
Why
With that, he turns and walks back toward the stairs, leaving me alone with my thoughts once more. My heart sinks as the door closes behind him, locking me in as I stare at my parents who I thought died.
I just don't understand how....... I thought they had been dead for 6 years...... why did they do it?
As I flip I see them photographed with large bricks of what looked like cocaine.
As I flip the less I thought i knew and the more questions I have with no answers.
