"Autism or Asperger's?" He Cheng blurted out.
"They're both terms for the same condition, you know."
Jiang Ya pondered for a moment, but truthfully, she couldn't be certain either since she had never personally encountered autism before. Neither of them had studied psychology, and under normal circumstances, there was no reason to pay attention to such topics.
"In any case, I feel like He Dacheng likely has psychological or personality issues rather than being intellectually impaired," Jiang Ya concluded.
"Fear disorder, or perhaps... aphasia?" He Cheng recalled two more terms.
"I don't understand," Jiang Ya shook her head again. "My father said that as a child, He Dacheng was quite intelligent and lively. Up until he was two or three years old, everything seemed normal."
"Could it be acquired later on?"
A sudden thought struck He Cheng, leading him to ponder conspiracy theories - could his stepfather have caused this affliction?
Currently, he had no particular feelings towards his cheap stepfather, Shao Baokui. However, ever since their first meeting, his equally inexpensive younger brother, Shao Chunlai, hadn't made a favorable impression.
He Cheng smacked his forehead, regretting the lack of memories from the original owner's perspective.
Not only were there no memories, but after spending this day together, they sadly confirmed neither possessed any golden cheats, spatial abilities, systems, or anything similar. The only significant gift of their transmigration seemed to be remaining together instead of being separated.
It truly was the biggest stroke of luck!
With a grin, He Cheng declared, "The most crucial thing right now is getting married, everything else can wait. Do you think your father would agree if I send a matchmaker to propose tomorrow?"
"What do you think?" Jiang Ya responded with a smile, mirroring his question.
"The immediate priority should be figuring out how to make you appear normal. You can't pretend to be a fool for your entire life, right?" Jiang Ya pursed her lips and chuckled, adding, "Besides, your acting skills are terrible. With your temperament, you simply can't stay silent when asked not to speak. How did today go? It won't take more than three days before your true nature completely shows through."
It indeed posed a significant challenge.
While He Cheng wasn't well-versed in web novels, Jiang Ya certainly was. In those stories, when a character suddenly undergoes a drastic personality change after time travel, there's usually some triggering event—such as...
"A serious illness, surviving near-death, falling off a cliff, drowning, being thrown from a horse, or getting hit on the head by something..." Jiang Ya counted these scenarios on her fingers, scrutinizing He Cheng's face before seriously suggesting, "How about this? Tomorrow at work, I'll pretend to accidentally strike you with my hoe..."
"Hmm, brilliant idea," He Cheng responded with a dramatic eye roll.
Just as they were conversing inside the room, two knocks sounded at the door. The wooden bolt rattled but didn't open, followed swiftly by loud pounding. Song Shixia's voice called out, "Erya, open the door."
He Cheng genuinely startled and quickly glanced at Jiang Ya.
"Why is he back so early?" Jiang Ya muttered, her expression crestfallen.
Her plan had been carefully laid. At night, Old Man Jiang typically went out to chat with others or gather for radio broadcasts, not returning until after the broadcast ended, usually past eight o'clock. Her two younger brothers wouldn't come home unless they stayed out till late, while Song Shixia was notoriously known as a "bench leg squatter"—meaning once he visited someone's house, he'd linger indefinitely, much like a worn-out bench leg that refuses to budge.
