"Just what are you trying to do?" Song Shixia angrily scolded him. "Don't be so shameless!"

"Auntie, don't say such things," He Cheng replied with a naive smile. "As your junior, I shouldn't worry about face around you."

His words carried a hint of recklessness.

"I tell you, this person..." Song Shixia's voice rose angrily, but Old Man Jiang discreetly nudged him, causing his outburst to abruptly cut off.

Old Man Jiang remained silent for a moment, suppressing his emotions before finally saying, "Come inside."

"Ah."

Following behind Old Man Jiang, He Cheng entered the living room and immediately spotted Jiang Ya sitting on a small stool with her arms resting on her legs, one hand propping up her cheek - looking exceptionally innocent and well-behaved. Fengchan and Fengshou were also present, appearing somewhat bewildered as He Cheng walked in.

No one offered him a seat, so He Cheng grabbed a stool himself and subtly signaled Jiang Ya with his eyes: We're in this together; don't leave me hanging.

However, Jiang Ya responded with a gaze that seemed to say: If you can't handle your future father-in-law, you deserve to remain single.

With a furrowed brow, Old Man Jiang took his seat and, after a pause, he asked grimly, "What exactly do you want? Just spit it out."

"Uncle, Auntie, I'll be straightforward - I've taken a liking to your Erya, and she feels the same about me," He Cheng declared bluntly, stunning everyone in the room.

Though Jiang Ya's expression remained unchanged, internally, she almost choked. She had urged him to find a way around the situation, never expecting such a direct approach from this unreliable fellow. Hopefully, he wouldn't end up getting beaten tonight.

He Cheng glanced at Jiang Ya, his lips curling into a delighted grin. "Uncle, Auntie, Erya doesn't want arranged marriages, so please don't force her. Her heart is set on marrying me. If you agree, I'll make it a grand wedding celebration to bring her home as my wife. But if you disagree, we'll elope together. Once she bears your grandchildren, we'll return to honor and respect you."

Old Man Jiang nearly choked, visibly gasping for breath with his face turning red.

Concerned he might truly anger his future father in law too much, He Cheng hastily added, "Uncle, rest assured, I will treat Erya well and show utmost respect to both of you. I know how much you cherish your daughter and you're a man of principles, unable to bear seeing her elope with me."

Song Shixia, enraged, shouted, "Get out! We do not agree. Don't even entertain the thought. Have you no self-awareness? Even if it meant killing our daughter, we would never marry her off to a fool!"

"Auntie, do I seem like a fool to you?" He Cheng rubbed his nose confidently. "Even if I was foolish before, everything changed when I fell for Erya. She has cured me completely; she's like my magical remedy, specifically tailored to heal my ailment. So, Auntie, please be reassured. I solemnly promise to love and cherish her wholeheartedly throughout our lives."

Jiang Ya cast him a long, slightly awkward glance, feeling embarrassed by his cheesy declaration.

"Erya, is this your doing? Have you no sense of shame?" Old Man Jiang scolded her. "Tell us yourself."

"Father..."

"Don't call me 'father'!" Jiang Laoda roared angrily. "Speak up, did you bring him here because you fancy him?"

Jiang Ya's posture slumped further. Pausing for a moment, she shrank back and slowly smiled, head bowed. "I listen to Dacheng."

"Are you blind? What do you see in him?"
