Cracks in the Armor
The rest of the week was a nightmare for Bakugo.
Ever since the Baku Squad caught wind of his weird behavior around Y/N, they hadn’t let up. If anything, they seemed to have made it their mission to get under his skin. Every lunch, every training session, every damn class, they found a way to bring her up.
And the worst part? Y/N kept making things worse. Whether she realized it or not, she knew exactly how to press his buttons, and lately, it felt like she was doing it just for fun.
It was lunchtime, and Bakugo sat at the usual table with his squad, stabbing at his food as they talked around him. Kirishima was going on about some new workout routine, but all Bakugo could think about was the fact that Y/N had been watching him from across the cafeteria. He could feel her eyes on him, and it was pissing him off in ways he couldn’t explain.
“You know, Bakugo,” Mina said casually, leaning over the table with a sly grin. “You should really try smiling more. I hear it makes people like you more.”
Bakugo didn’t even bother looking up. “I’m not here to be fucking liked.”
Kaminari snorted, nudging Kirishima with his elbow. “Yeah, well, someone seems to like you anyway.”
At that, Bakugo’s head snapped up, glaring at Kaminari. “What the hell are you talking about?”
Mina leaned in further, her grin widening. “Oh, come on. We all know Y/N’s been hanging around you a lot more lately. Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed.”
Bakugo’s fists clenched under the table, his knuckles turning white. “Shut the hell up, raccoon eyes. She’s just annoying.”
“Uh-huh,” Sero chimed in, grinning lazily. “Sure, sure. She’s just ‘annoying.’ That’s why you keep staring at her, right?”
Bakugo was about to explode when Kirishima, ever the peacekeeper, stepped in. “Guys, come on. Let’s not push him too hard. Bakugo, we’re just saying, it’s kinda obvious there’s… something there, you know?”
“Yeah, something like *tension*,” Kaminari added with a wink.
Bakugo’s patience snapped. “There’s nothing fucking there!” he yelled, slamming his hand on the table, sending forks and trays clattering. “If you all don’t shut your mouths, I’ll blow you all to hell!”
The entire table went quiet for a moment, and the Baku Squad exchanged glances. Finally, Mina broke the silence, her grin never wavering. “Alright, alright. We’ll drop it… for now.”
Bakugo huffed, turning his attention back to his food, though his appetite had completely vanished. But even as they let the subject go, he couldn’t shake the feeling of Y/N’s eyes still on him from across the room. What the hell was her deal, anyway?
Time Skip
Later that day, the class was called to the training field for another exercise, this time a mock rescue scenario. Aizawa briefed them quickly, but Bakugo wasn’t listening. His mind was elsewhere, drifting back to the Baku Squad’s teasing, to Y/N’s smirk, to the way she always seemed to be just a little too close lately.
“Bakugo, Y/N,” Aizawa called out. “You’re a team for this one.”
*Of fucking course,* Bakugo thought bitterly, grinding his teeth as he shot a glance toward Y/N, who was already grinning at him from across the field. It was like the universe was fucking with him on purpose.
The two of them made their way to the designated rescue area, an abandoned building mock-up set up with obstacles and traps. The goal was simple: rescue the dummy civilians inside and bring them back to safety. But Bakugo already knew this wasn’t going to be simple.
As soon as they were inside, the tension was palpable. Y/N, as usual, seemed completely unfazed, sauntering ahead with her usual confidence. Bakugo followed, his eyes narrowing as he watched her move. Every step, every glance back at him, every little smirk—it was all driving him insane.
“You gonna help, or just stand there glaring at me?” Y/N teased, not even bothering to look back as she cleared a path through the rubble.
Bakugo growled under his breath. “I’m doing my job, dumbass. You should worry about yours.”
“Relax, *Boom Boom Boy*,” she said, throwing him a glance over her shoulder. “I’m just messing with you.”
That was the problem. She was always messing with him. And no matter how much he told himself he didn’t care, there was something about the way she said his name, the way she looked at him, that made his heart beat faster in ways he couldn’t control. It pissed him off, and it confused the hell out of him.
They worked in relative silence for the next few minutes, gathering the dummies and navigating through the building. But every now and then, Y/N would throw a sly comment his way, or brush past him just a little too close, and each time it happened, Bakugo felt himself getting more and more on edge.
By the time they made it back to the rendezvous point, Bakugo was practically seething, though he wasn’t entirely sure why. Y/N tossed her last dummy onto the ground, stretching her arms above her head like the whole thing had been a walk in the park.
“Not bad, *Katsuki*,” she said, her voice dropping just slightly as she said his name. “Looks like we make a pretty good team, huh?”
His eye twitched, and for a split second, he forgot how to breathe. He wasn’t used to anyone calling him by his first name, and hearing it come out of her mouth sent a strange jolt through him that he didn’t know how to handle.
“Shut the hell up,” he muttered, turning away before she could see the way his face had started to flush. But he could feel her eyes on him, could practically *hear* the smirk forming on her lips.
“Aw, don’t be like that, Bakugo,” she teased, stepping closer. “You know I’m just messing with you. Unless…” Her voice dropped again, and Bakugo felt the air grow heavy between them. “Unless there’s something you wanna tell me?”
Bakugo turned to face her, his eyes burning with frustration. “There’s nothing to fucking tell you, got it?! Stop messing around!”
Y/N raised her hands in mock surrender, her smirk never fading. “Alright, alright. No need to get all worked up.” She winked at him before turning to walk away. “See you around, *Katsuki*.”
Bakugo stood there, watching her walk off, his heart pounding in his chest, his mind racing with thoughts he didn’t want to admit he was having.
The teasing from the Baku Squad was bad enough. But now, Y/N was in his head, and no matter how hard he tried to push her out, she just kept coming back.
*What the hell is happening to me?* ( Bakugo said to himself)
