-A S H E R-
As someone who is a kick-boxer, I wouldn't say I'm a violent person. But what happened on Saturday at the diner had angered me made me want to hit a wall. It wasn't just what they said, but the way looked at Spencer. Like she didn't matter, like she was just trash.
I don't care what their deal is with her, but seeing Spencer being so tensed up by them made me want to punch them. But I learned you're not supposed to hit girls and I won't hit one. I just know if it were guys who were standing there, they would have landed in a hospital.
And the worst part of it all was the fact that Spencer described them as annoying girls and just shrugged it off. Like it didn't matter, like she was used to it. But to me it mattered and I will help her and be there for her.
I walked through the hallways of my school and found her at her locker. She was so caught up in her own world that she didn't even notice me standing there.
"Spence." I said softly, leaning against the locker next to hers. She blinked, coming back to the and gave me a soft and weak smile. "Hi, Asher."
"Are you okay?" I asked her, keeping my voice low. Not wanting to push anything, but needing to know she was alright.
"Asher, since I've met you. You've asked me that question a million times. As much I appreciate that, but I'm okay. I promise." She replied.
But that's the problem, promises can be broken. Lying is a thing and I unfortunately learned that the hard way. People say they're mean doesn't mean they really are. I know that just too well.
"Alright. Just know like I said I'm here." I replied.
"I know, and thank you for that. But enough about me. Are you okay?" She asked me.
That caught me off guard, because I didn't expect her to flip the concern back on me like that. But it felt nice to know she cared. "Yeah, I'm okay too."
She smiled a little, like she was satisfied with that answer. "Then we're both okay."
I nodded, "Yeah." I said forcing a smile. "We're both okay."
The bell rang, cutting through the moment and Spencer closed her locker with a soft thud. She glanced at me and gave me that soft smile. The kind of smile that made everything fade for a second.
"Ready?" She asked me.
I nodded, trying to push down the way my chest tightened every time she smiled like that. "Yeah, let's go."
As we started walking together, side by side. I couldn't help it, but steal a glance at her. She was talking about something, but I barely caught the words. All I could think about was how could she be so pretty, even in moments as simple as this. Just walking down the hallway, casual as ever.
It was just everything about her, especially the way she carried her self. She didn't even know how she affected people, especially me.
I quickly looked away before she noticed me staring, but my heart was still beating a little faster than it should've been.
We entered our English class and made our way to the back of the classroom. Spencer dropped her bag next to her chair and sat down, leaning back in her seat. I took the seat beside her, trying to act casual even though my mind was still running circles from that stupid glance in the hallway.
