I'm not sure how much Corrine understood when I said I didn't want a relationship.

For the next week and a half, she asked me to hangout often. I agreed to it a few times, and each time, I went to her house when her parents weren't home. However, one of the times her younger sister was home, and it was kind of awkward when I ran into her while leaving.

The fourth time seeing her, right before Christmas, I invited her to my house. My mom wasn't home, even if she was, she wouldn't care.

Normally I wouldn't even hang out with someone four times, but I figured I would entertain this with Corrine. It had been a while since I fucked something besides my vibrator or fingers, and I was enjoying the human-to-human contact.

We had finished in my bed, I had been teaching her the ropes of sex with a woman, and she had been doing...quite well. She made me cum, that's all I cared about.

Corrine lay in my bed, and I lay next to her on my side, my head propped up on my hand. We were both in our all black bras and underwear.

"What makes you not want to be in a relationship?" Corrine asked, her blue eyes looking up at me.

I immediately tensed and said back, "It's just not what I'm looking for in my life right now."

"When was your last relationship?"

"It ended about 4 years ago."

I noticed Corrine frown slightly, "And you wouldn't want another relationship?"

"Not at the moment, no," I said, "Look...it wasn't a good relationship. Very on and off, and it caused me a lot of grief. I'm not saying it closed me off to relationships forever, I just don't want another one right now."

That, among other reasons.

Corrine chewed her lip for a moment and then nodded, "I get that. I've had my fair share of toxic relationships. It can really leave a scar."

"Exactly," I nodded, not wanting to discuss it further.

The coffee shop was closed on Christmas Eve day, as well as Christmas. It's tradition that I go to Emily's house for dinner on Christmas Eve. Before my mom worked in a private practice, she worked at a hospital, and one time she had to work Christmas Eve. Emily invited me over to dinner at her family's house, and since then, I've been going there every year. On Christmas Day, I go to my grandmothers.

It's always enjoyable. I love Emily's parents, Gabriel and Dana, and her two younger brothers are always fun to joke around with. After dinner, Emily and I went up to her bedroom.

"Are we still doing something for New Year's Eve together?" I asked Emily.

Emily looked hesitant for a moment, and she then said, "I don't want to ditch you, at all. But Evan invited me to a party at his friend's house. I'm sure you're more than welcome to come!"

"It's okay, Em. Enjoy the party with Evan. I'll figure out something else to do. Even if that something else is hanging at home with Penelope, I'm fine with that."

Emily pouted, "Are you sure? I feel bad. You can come with us."

"I don't want to be a third wheel. I want you to enjoy your night with him. He's your new boyfriend."

Emily smiled brightly, "I appreciate you understanding."

"Always," I nodded.

She then surprised me by asking, "Have things been alright with Poppy?"

"We pretty much just ignore each other, it's been fine," I said back, which was almost the full truth. Besides the interactions we'd had, we did just ignore each other at work.
