Poppy was near impossible to resist.

Even with my guilt, I was still going over to her apartment to see her for the next week.

I hadn't seen Emily at all within that week, she was mostly spending time with Evan.

Though I was texting with her.

I'm fucking the woman that broke her heart.

At work, Poppy and I basically acted the same. Maybe a little bit friendlier to each other, but mostly ignoring each other. However, the looks she gave me when no one else was paying attention said otherwise.

A little over a week after I had been to her house multiple nights, I invited her over to my house. My mom was going out, and I would have the whole place to myself.

Whenever I went to Poppy's, her brother wasn't there. She said that he slept at his girlfriend's house almost every night.

Poppy agreed to come over to my house.

She texted me saying she'd love to see my bed.

I rolled my eyes at the text, but smiled at the same time.

When Poppy was on her way, I touched up on my eyeliner, and even though I was wearing black sweatpants, I wore a cute pair of boyshorts underneath.

I greeted Poppy at the door, and I wanted to kiss her, but I still wasn't sure if I should. I could tell that she was thinking the same thing.

Instead, I led her into my house.

"Wow, nice place," she said, "Your home is beautifully decorated."

"My mom would appreciate that."

As I led Poppy up the steps to my bedroom, I said to her, "Just so you know, my cat, Penelope, is on my bed at the moment."

"Aw, I love cats!" Poppy clasped her hands, "I'm now more excited to see her than I am you."

"Ha, ha. You're so funny, Poppy."

"Don't tell me things I already know, Delilah."

When we walked into my room, Poppy smiled at the sight of Penelope on my bed.

"She's really friendly," I said to Poppy, "You can pet her."

Poppy approached Penelope slowly, and stuck her hand out for Penelope first. Penelope sniffed her hand, and Poppy then petted her.

"Aren't you the cutest?" she doted on Penelope, "I love black cats."

"Same. They're often overlooked at shelters, so right when I saw Penelope, I knew I had to adopt her."

"It's so sad," Poppy pouted, "How old is Penelope?"

"She's three years old. I got her when she was a kitten."

"I had cats growing up," Poppy said, "My mom loves them as well. I did have a black cat, Midnight. She was the best, she passed away a few years ago."

"I'm sorry," I said to Poppy, "You must miss her."

"I do," Poppy nodded, she then asked me, "Do you have any Advil by chance? I have a killer headache."

"Yeah, I'll grab you some and a bottle of water. Poppy, you didn't have to come over if you have a headache."

Poppy shrugged, "I wanted to."

Penelope jumped off my bed as I went to fetch Poppy the medication and a water bottle. She then went downstairs to sleep on the couch, and I went back to Poppy.
