Violet sat beside Jackie on the deck, watching as Travis held the gun that had been left in the cabin. Violet's eyebrows raised as Travis held the gun up to a squirrel who was climbing up the tree in front of them.
"Travis. Do you even know how to use that thing?" Violet asks.
Travis ignores her, keeping the gun raised alerting Van to run over.
"You don't know what the hell you're doing with that!" She yells, grabbing the gun and lowering it. Travis glares Van in return, shoving her slightly.
"He's being fucking stupid," Jackie groans.
"When is he not?" Violet retorts.
"No, what's stupid is we have a gun and we aren't fucking using it!"Violet jumps violently as Travis fires the gun, missing the squirrel.
"Jesus Christ Travis," she glares, watching as now everyone begins running over.
"What the hell?" Natalie exclaims, her arms flying in the air right as Coach Ben makes his way out. "Give me that! Travis give me the gun!" Coach snapped, tearing the gun from Travis' hands when Travis reluctantly handed it over.
"This is a dangerous weapon and we will handle it as such," Coach began. "But, with that being said...Travis is right. We're out of food. We're all feeling it. The good news is my father use to take me deer hunting every year as a kid. The bad news...Yeah, I am down to one fucking leg. Which means, if we want to eat, one of you is going to have to learn how to use this thing,"
Violet sighs, slumping against the wall of the cabin, not failing to notice the look of pure terror on Natalie's face.
Violet turns to look at Jackie, who had her arms crossed over her chest. "This is bullshit," she mumbles to Violet.
"Better than us starving to death,"
Jackie sighs, looking at Violet "Did you sleep okay last night?"
Violet nods, "Yeah actually, it wasn't bad," she speaks truthfully.
"That's good, I'm glad you got a few hours of beauty sleep,"
Violet lets a soft smile peak onto her face, "Thank you,"
The two sit in a comfortable silence afterwards, enjoying the others company.~~~
Violet watched with her arms crossed over her chest, she stood beside Natalie, not being able to look past at her best friend's anxious fidgeting.
Violet had been more than aware of what happened between Nat and her dad that awful day.
Her and Van both. Violet remembers the day she found out vividly.Violet and Van had been walking back from the local diner after getting milkshakes, a chocolate one in hand for Nat who usually came with them (She had plans with Kevyn today)
Violet and Van had been making small talk but it soon came to a holt when Kevyn came sprinting in front of them, panic written on his face.
"Woah, woah, Kevyn? What happened?" Van asks, stopping him.
Kevyn shakes his head, breathing heavily, "Kevyn...what happened?" Violet's eyes were wide with worry, the worse case scenarios wrap around her brain.
"Kevyn!" Van snaps after he just continues to stare at them with wide eyes.
"Nat," is all he says, Violet's chest heaves slightly.
"What about Nat? Is she alright?"
The worry increases as police sirens are heard, cars and an ambulance drive past the trio.
"Holy fuck," Van gasps.
"Kevyn-"
"Her dad came home and, it wasn't good,"
Violet and Van share a look, a knowing look.
Violet doesn't waste anymore time, her feet move faster than her brain when she begins sprinting to Natalie's trailer, her heart dropping as the ambulance and police cars are parked in front of it.
Van is quick to approach from behind, her breathing is heavy, "Holy shit, you don't think-"
Violet shakes her head, "No, no it can't-"
The two watch in horror when a body with a white sheet draped over it is brought out of the house, blood seeping through the white sheet.
Van grabs Violet's arm firmly, it's enough that Violet knows she isn't dreaming. Her and Van's worst fears seem to be unravelling in front of them.
Violet wants to sob in relief when a police officer walks out, Natalie beside them.
Tears track down her face, her dark hair is messy and all over the place and she has this look on her face.
This scared, traumatized look that makes Violet's heart break.
When Natalie notices Violet and Van standing there, she walks straight past the officers who are asking her questions and rushing straight over to the two girls.
"Nat what the fuck happened?" Van asks as she pulls Natalie into a tight hug, letting the chocolate milkshake drop and spill all over the gravel.
Natalie just lets more tears stream down her face, not saying anything, she pulls Violet in as soon as Van frees her from the tight embrace.
"Vi," Nat lets the tears spill onto Violet's shoulder.
Violet hugs Natalie tightly, feeling her hammering heart against her chest.
"God Nat, what happened?"
"My dad," she rasps.
"What about your dad?"
"I killed him. I killed my dad,"
Natalie didn't get to expand after that, she was dragged away by a police officer.
It wasn't until days later when Natalie broke down and told Violet and Van what happened.
The night was filled with tears, ice cream, shitty low budget movies and the thankful comfort of friends."Are you alright?" Violet whispers.
Natalie glances up, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"Nat," Violet deadpans, "Are you serious?"
Natalie shakes her head, playing with her rings, "I'm fine, Vi. Just drop it,"
Violet bites her lip, watching as Taissa gets ready for her turn.
Taissa grabs it, concentration is evident on her face as she gets it in position.
Misty placed the coin and when Taissa went to pull the trigger, the coin falls.
"Dammit," she mumbles, lowering the gun.
"It's okay, you guys. Hey. It's not a competition" Coach comments.
"But there is gonna be a winner, right?" Jackie smirks, taking the gun.
"Bold of you to assume it'll be you," Violet smiles, Jackie sticks her tongue out at her in return.
"Alright Jackie, you're up"
"Alright" Jackie holds the gun, dropping the coin almost as soon as Misty places the coin on it.
Taissa laughs loudly. "Okay. This is literally impossible," Jackie complains.
Violet playfully rolls her eyes, "It can't be that hard,"
"Oh yeah? You try it then," Jackie holds out the gun, Violet hesitantly takes it, adjusting it.Violet moves the gun up into position, steadying it so Misty can place the coin on it.
Violet takes a breath, pulling the trigger but groaning when it falls into the dirt.
"Son of a bitch,"
"Not that hard, hey?" Jackie teases, Violet can't help the small smile that creeps on her lips.
"I just didn't want you to feel bad if I was better at it than you," she teases back, passing the gun back to Coach.
"Whatever makes your ego feel better,"Coach clears his throat, "Okay, uh, Martinez you're up next,"
Travis steps forward, taking the gun, "Yo, Javi come try this,"
"Fuck you," the younger brother says before walking away.
"Jesus, what did you do to piss him off?" Violet asks, only receiving a glare in return.
"Nice going Flex," Laura Lee says.
"Let's go," he says, getting into position. Misty places the coin, to the girls dismay, it doesn't fall. "See ladies, that's how it's done,"
"Nice Martinez," Coach says as Jackie and Mari flip Travis off, Violet rolls her eyes."Nat, you're up,"
Violet bites her nails, making brief eye contact with Van then staring back at Natalie.
Travis hands the gun to Natalie, who takes it with shaky hands, avoiding Violet and Van's concerned glances.
Natalie begins to put the gun into position, Misty placing the coin on the gun.
"Come on, nice and easy. Like the man said." Travis taunts.
Violet clenches her jaw, "Shut the fuck up, Travis,"
Natalie tries to focus but shakes, the coin falling before she can even pull the trigger.
"Good try, Nat," Violet smiles softly at her.
"Here," Van gently takes the gun from the shaking girls hands, Natalie looks down in embarrassment.
"Aw. That's a shame," Travis taunts again. "Now you know what, next time we can just stick to something you're actually good at, like folding laundry, or sucking-"
"Hey!" Van snaps.
"Back the fuck off Travis," Violet says through gritted teeth."I'm going again" Natalie decides, taking the gun from Van who is more than happy to give it back to her.
"Can she do that?" Jackie complains.
Violet smacks Jackie's arm, "Yes, she can. Right Coach?"
"Yeah. I'll allow it."
"Okay. This is bullshit" Travis scoffs.
Violet groans, tilting her head back, "God, would you shut up already?"
Natalie gets the gun in position once again, holding it a lot more steady this time while Misty places the coin on it.
Natalie pulls the trigger and to Violet's excitement, the coin stays in place.
Violet and Van cheer the loudest, but all the girls join in to cheer in victory for Nat with grins on their faces.
