Chapter 6: For the First Time
( Still Jake )
Even though I wasn't hungry, I still went to the kitchen to enjoy valuable time with my family. And frankly, my head was pounding And I'm surprised I haven't vomited yet, so it's a pretty good idea that I should not girl that fire. Usually I would be concerned that my parents are home a fraction of the time, but they get assigned so many mission that Raven and I for used to being home alone. We practically raised ourselves. Apparently, Mom and Dad are the LGBT's top operatives, so they get all the best missions. Like last month they had to track down a mad scientist, who were turning people into super, dragon, reptile things. On the bright side, they always bring back souvenirs. However, I could have done without the severed tail. It didn't even last; it only took a day to decompose.
You would think two highly trained, super powered, secret agents couldn't be easily fooled, but not only did Max break into our house, he snuck out right behind their backs. After Raven left my room that she rudely invaded, he called his friend Marissa from my phone because his died during the party. She came to my house in a girl scout get-up, and distracted my parents by "selling cookies" (there were never any cookies). While they were at the door, Max hopped out through the window in the kitchen.
"So mom, I was wondering if I could hang with some friends later" Raven voiced from one end of the table. Through experience, we all knew that 'friends' was code for crack buddies. Crack being crack, if you catch my drift. I wouldn't say she has a drug problem, but she took a liking to it. Unfortunately, mom and dad were barely around to address the issue.
"Well little lady. Given that we caught you at that wild party, you aren't going anywhere but school for a long time," mom responded, proceeding to take a bite of a plump, juicy sausage. Ha.
"There was a party last night?" I asked. It couldn't have been the party I went to, and of it was, I didn't see her there. Possibly because I was drugged half the time.
"Yeah, it was at Ariana Taylor's house. And it was just getting good before the Weatherman, and Mind.... Lady busted us," Raven expressed. "How did you even know I was there?"
"Dozens of pictures posted on your Twitter," dad announced from behind his newspaper.
Who reads the newspaper anymore?
"You monitor my Twitter?!" Raven interjected in shock. Ow.
Mom and dad paused, looking at each other. Then at Raven. Then back at each other again before giving a sharp "no" and then continuing with their morning as it the last 5 minutes didn't happen.
It was silent.
Really silent.
For a good 10 minutes before a phone started ringing. Thank God. Dad reached into his pocket and answered it. After a couple "ok's" and "alright's" he hung up the phone.
"That was Director Matthews. He assigned us a mission in Chicago," dad announced. "There's a crime lord smuggling enhancement drugs from Russia in to the United States through Chicago."
"Enhanced drugs?" I say curiously.
"They're basically trying to be us. They're the... Wannabe gang," mom says, proud of her.... Joke? It was clever, I'll give her that.
"And synthetic biological drugs are not the proper way to go about it," dad exclaims. "I think it's illegal. But we can't let that kind of technology fall in the hands of criminals."
