Sorry this chapter is really short, but it's a quick resolution to get back to the main storyline.

The attached picture is somewhat what I had in mind for Max's lair. Just pretend the giant red thing isn't there...

Chapter 9: Heroes Always Die Part 2

Max

When I arrived to the abandoned building that used to be my house, I hopped off of my motorcycle.....which I stole. That doesn't make me a villain. I just to do what I had to do, ya know?

Apparently when mom and dad skipped town, he cleared out the house. Good thing he didn't know about my secret lair. The door hidden in the wall still worked. Now that I have the other half of the formula, I am one step closer to finding out what my dad was up to. All I need is a certain someone to cooperate.

"Can I at least get some reading material? Vogue. GQ. Seventeen. Anything," Ariana begged from inside the giant glass case. "I'll even read the national geographic."

"Can you cooperate," I negotiated. "Then I will consider rewarding you."

"You lost that privilege when you stole my boyfriend, and on top of that you kidnap me and feed me kid cuisine!"

I'm usually not a hypocrit but...

"Jake never liked you anyway. And it's better than prison food, so be grateful," I said. "You also know where the flash drive is."

"Now why would you think that?"

"You had a sticky note with the words 'password for evil 6.0 usb stick' on it. Kind of a dead giveaway, especially since it hasn't even been invented yet."

"Funny coincidence."

"Anyways.... I can finally find out what my dad was so obsessed with."

I walk over to the lab table, and open the locked box that contains the other half of the formula. I take both test tubes and carefully pour them into a single flask, causing it to turn bright pink.

"Maybe if I had the flash drive, I could better understand what this does," I say, hinting that she needs to tell me where it is.

"You spend so much time trying to find out where it is, but you never stopped to think if the answer was in front of you all along," she responded.

What was that suppose to mean?

Did she...?

"Oh my God, you swallowed it didn't you," I accused.

"Let's just say, our dad dropped it off before ditching town," she stated cryptically.

"And why would he - our dad. Our dad?" I am now incredibly confused. Is there something I'm missing?

"He didn't tell you? Figures... He never tells you anything. Me, however, he tells me everything because unlike you, I actually matter."

"What are you talking about?"

"When you were born, you lacked the gene he possessed that have him his powers, but I have them. And you would've picked it up from Victoria but she isn't even your real mom. Ironically enough, we were born a day apart. But since he didn't find out about me until last year, he did experiments on you as an infant. Basically your powers are an unstable, synthetic byproduct of some deranged science project that was confiscated by the U.S. government. You want to know what the formula does? It -"

"Dammit, You talk so much! Get to the point," I interrupted. Don't get me wrong, it was an interesting story, but I need to finish before they come for me.

She scoffed, "fine, no answers for you."

"Whatever. I didn't really care," I said sardonically. I flipped a switch, and two robotic arms lift up from the ground and grabbed her by the arms.

"What are you going to do to me?"

"Well first I need that flash drive, and then I'm going to find out what this does," I state as I unlock the transparent door on the side of the giant glass casing. "Do you think it's attracted to magnets?"

I scan her body with my hand, channeling energy into a magnetic field to see if it would pull on the flash drive. When I feel slight movement near her stomach, I knew I had found it.

"If I remember from biology, it's somewhere between your stomach and large intestine, so you possibly won't die," I said with false promises. I'm no doctor but she'll probably just bleed out.

"You're insa-AAAAAH SHIT," she screamed when I magnetically pulled the flash drive out of her. Drops of blood fell to the floor.

"My white floors," I whined. I was extremely bothered when things weren't clean or organized.

"Fuck you," she hissed as I walked out of the room closing and locking the door behind me. I pressed the switch to release her from the two robot arms.

I walk over to my prototype replica of the super computer used to create this flash drive, and stick it in the port.

An image of the presidential seal, except the words "United States" we're replaced with "World" with patriotic music playing. This can only mean one thing...

"Hello, I am President Dr. Ego Strange," my father said when he appears on the screen. "It is currently January 20th, 2023. I'm here to tell you...me... That the key to having all of this is sitting in the document you have there. People are out there to change your futere, my present, and prevent you from gaining power. But I'm going to change that."

"Don't you know it's rude to poke your nose in other people's business," I heard Ariana's voice from behind me.

I hope I locked that door.

"How did you get out?" I asked.

"You shouldn't have removed that flash drive. Who ever comes in contact with it will temporarily lose their abilities."

She raised her arm and it completely transformed into diamonds.

If she has powers now, and I just had that thing in my hand, then...

"Well fu-" I looked down and her hand sliced right through my abdomen.

"That's what you get for trying to be the hero."

Ow.
