Chapter 14: Mighty Four
Jake
Ariana stood in the middle of her living room, leading us into a final agreement about our spring dance. We have been debating a theme for the past half hour, and it doesn't seem to be concluding any time soon. Why did we have to be in charge of this. Ariana's reply would probably be along the lines of, "in order for our student body to be stable, we can't have unattractive, incompetent buffoons ruining everything." That definitely sounds like something she would say.
"Jakey, you've been pretty silent. What do you think the theme should be?" Ari asked me, out of the blue.
"Um.... Cats," I said abruptly. There was an awkward pause in the conversation. Were they actually considering this.
"Gross. Next," Stacy remarked, ignoring my aloofness. They slipped over my clear separation from participating as if it were a lost puppy desperately looking for attention but too ugly for anybody to care and had a displeasing odor. Sad. I know.
"What about an afternoon in Italy," Kyle suggested boldly.
"Ooh romantic," Ariana cooed. "No."
That was cold.
"It was a lot better than Jake's 'cats' idea," he stayed.
"Hey!" I protested.
"Yeah, but it's such a cliché," Ari mentioned.
"You're a cliché!" He shouted.
"Spell cliché!"
"C-l-," he pauses. "E..."
I knew Kyle wasn't the smartest of the group, but is he really that dumb?
"Next idea," Stacy said.
"Okay, imagine this," Tye started, "you walk in greeted by an archway with two crossing candy canes. The walls are lines with graham-"
"Ooorrrr, we could do a Baz Luhrmann Great Gatsby's, 1920's party. Boppin' music, and flashy clothes," Stacy interrupted. Again.
"I like it," Ariana acknowledged. "let's take it to a vote."
"So now it's a democracy?" Tye asked, looking away in disbelief shunning.
"Oh come on Tye, don't be like that," Stacy started. "If you don't vote it might be a tie."
"Between Gatsby and Candy land? I don't think so," I spoke rather bitterly. This was just too exhausting, and makes me question why I'm even friends with them. Oh yeah. I don't have any other friends. "Sorry Tye."
"Gatsby it is then. Now that that business is out of the way.... Did you hear about Derek cheating on Esther with Mrs. Washington?" Ariana announced.
"I hear she got the siffles," Stacy joined in with some random made up word.
"Siffles?"
"Syphilis."
"Well, as much is I would like to hear the latest gossip, I have to head home. It is a school night," I sounded like a grade-A loser. Those days were suppose to be over. Remember: Jake Lothario.
Oh, give it a rest.
"Hey, before you go, can we talk real quick," Ariana requested. We walked into her marble hall, stopping underneath a giant family portrait. "I know I came off a little too strong the first time around, but I was hoping that we could, you know, salvage what's left of this relationship."

Ciencia Ficción"Can I sit with you?" Jake asked me with a crooked smile. Why? He looked pretty comfy sitting at the table with the coolest people in school. Maybe he realized how horrible the popular crowd really are. Part of me wanted to turn him away, but then I...
