July in midsummer is sweltering. Grandville University School of Medicine is located in the downtown area north of Novahaven, next to the vast and beautiful Sky Ridge Mountain. It has a history of more than a hundred years. It has the best teaching conditions and the best teaching team, and it also cultivates the best medical talents.
There are many student activities in the summer, so there are still students everywhere on the campus, as well as citizens, vehicles, tourists, etc.
"Heal with Wisdom, Serve with Compassion." Arthur Wenlock looked at the correction gate in the distance, muttered the school motto, and strode away.
It has been almost three months since he left, and he is in a completely different mood when he sets foot here again.
This is the third day of the deep dive. Yesterday, the cruise ship docked in the Maldives, and he immediately took the fastest flight back to Novahaven, USA.
The task list was refreshed again at midnight today. However, due to environmental conditions, it is challenging to complete any of them. He has not accepted any tasks and will discuss them when he returns to school because the school and the affiliated hospital have enough environmental conditions.
And if you want to test whether those drugs are effective, you must return here.
After entering the campus, Arthur Wenlock went toward the laboratory building. More people were on the road: students, tourists, parents with children.
When he walked to the north of the campus, there was still some distance to go when Arthur suddenly heard someone calling him in surprise: "Goldie Wenlock?"
He turned around and saw a man pushing a bicycle and running towards him. "It's you. I haven't seen you for a few months. You didn't return the call."
The man was both tall and short. His hairline had receded significantly. He had a lean face, dead fish eyes, and a pair of heavy dark circles under his eyes. He looked like he was 40 years old.
But in fact, this guy was only 21 years old. His head just showed the typical symptoms of "medical student syndrome": a premature aging look due to stress.
His name was Thomas Davis. He was one of Arthur's roommates. They used to get along well. Thomas was an honest man who Arthur bullied. When Arthur was having fun, Thomas would cover for him and borrow his notebooks to copy.
Although Thomas didn't, he didn't go crazy with him; their friendship was real.
"Something happened, so I took a leave of absence and came back today," Arthur said with a smile, punching his friend on the shoulder.
Because he asked the hospital that diagnosed him to keep it confidential, few people in the school knew about his illness. Only a few doctors in the hospital's neurosurgery department knew about it.
"Uh." Thomas rubbed his shoulder painfully and said with great regret: "Everyone thought you dropped out of school. Some said you died suddenly in a bar, and your family went bankrupt... Oh, come on. It's good to be back. I'll lend you my notes if you need to make up for the summer exam."
"Okay, I'll take them all." Arthur nodded, feeling even warmer, "What about you? Did you fail the course if you didn't go home during the summer vacation?"
Thomas was immediately refreshed, and his face instantly became a few years younger, "I was shortlisted for the Elite Challenge Cup! Professor Mirage led the team."
"Wow!" Arthur couldn't help but exclaim exaggeratedly, really excited for his friend, "Congratulations."
The Elite Challenge Cup is a research experiment that the medical school has started organizing recently for undergraduates to conduct during the winter and summer vacations. Every year, students from various majors compete for it. Still, only 60 people can be shortlisted, and the professors will select the best to form 12 groups, each with five people.
In addition to training personal abilities and developing interpersonal relationships, if the students can complete the paper and get a ranking, there will be many benefits for the participating students.
"Oh my God. You know I am pretty good at injecting drugs into mice." Thomas likes to sigh about everything, "Then Professor Mirage's research direction is tumor photodynamic therapy. When he felt that I was useful, he took me with him. Thank God."
He said it without reservation, neither showing off nor afraid of hurting Arthur's feelings because Goldie Wenlock would not care about the Elite Challenge Cup.
"Hey," Thomas smiled happily and remembered something: "Oh, right..." This is what Arthur would care about. He lowered his voice and said, "There is a situation in our group. I should tell you."
"What?" Arthur asked.
