Saphira's POV
I sat up with a start. I regretted that immediately as my muscles protests at the sudden movement. I groaned as I slowly lay back down. "It's best if you lay down for a while longer." The voice followed a shadow that blocked the sun from my vision. Charlie smiled as he looked down at me, "It's natural for you to be in pain after you overexerted yourself yesterday." I frown up at him, "How are you standing?" My voice was raspy and dry. I coughed, and it was so painful. After I calmed down, I groaned in agony.
Charlie chuckled at my miserable state, "I'm use to overexerting myself. I worked with my dad at the blacksmiths, remember? It's tough work. So, I recovered quickly, but I still have some sore muscles." My frown deepened as I stare jealously at the standing boy. I try to move my head around to try and see what's around me. I groan at my neck pain.
"Your sisters are fine, they ate and drank some clean water we found. Want some?" He held up a dented tin can, I could hear the sloshing of the water inside. I try to gulp, but the dryness of my throat restricted me from doing so, I nod my head eagerly. Charlie sat on his knees next to me, he put one hand behind my head to rise it up a bit so I could drink. He helped me by tipping the tin as I took big gulps of the cold water.
I finished the whole tin of water, it didnt quenched my thirst. I wanted more. "You need to take it slow, if you rush it, you'll get sick." I knew he was right, but I didnt care, I could deal with the consequences later. It feels like I have too much to do. I try to sit up. "Hold on! You need to rest!" Charlie pushed me down. I groan in frustration, "I have things I need-" Charlie quickly cut me off, "I already took care of everything." I frown up at him, "But-" He cut me off again. "I made us a shelter, got us food and clean water. Silver is keeping Winifred entertained." He smiled reasuringly, "I wanted to move you to the shelter, but you're too heavy."
"You little-" Charlie moved back so I couldn't reach him. It was no use anyway, my arm barely left the ground. "Sorry, sorry." He chuckled, not sounding sorry at all. "I'll get you something to eat, I'll be right back." He got to his feet and disappeared from my sight. I sigh and try to get comfortable, it was hard to do with my aching muscles. I groan again as my body protested with the movements. I stilled as I heard footsteps approaching.
Silver came into my view. She was holding some kind of fruit. "I'm glad your awake! You slept for so long." She sat on her knees next to me. I raise a brow, "How long?" I was a bit worried by the answer, 'How long have I left you two alone?' . "You slept most of the day away, the sun is almost setting again." She gave me a sad little smile, I could tell she was worried about me. I sigh at the information, "I'm sorry for leaving you for so long..." She shakes her head, "It's okay, Charlie has been taking care of us. He even got Winifred to eat!"
I was pleased to hear that. I looked to the odd fruit in her hands again. My stomach growled. I didnt even care if the fruit was safe to eat or not, my hunger was too painful to care. I try to sit up again. "Charlie said you shouldn't move!" Silver was worried when she saw me struggle, "Just help me up. I want to join you at the shelter." I groan at every movement I make. Silver's worried face never left as she put one of my arms over her shoulder. With her help, I was able to shakily walk to the shelter they built.
As we neared, I gave the poor shelter a once over. It didn't look great, but it served it's purpose. Charlie used the old clothes to make a shade that he secured with the rotten ropes, from my oars I made, to the tree brances that hanged low. He had broken some of our crates to build a fire. I see one of the crates were used as a type of bed for Winifred. I sat next to Winifred's crate and peered in to see her wide awake. She greeted me with a bright smile, I returned the smile.
"Here, eat up. They are pretty good." Silver gave me the odd fruit as she sat next to Winifred's crate on the other side. I look the fruit over before shrugging and taking a big bite. The fruit tasted heavinly in my mouth. I hardly chewed as I took bite after bite. The next thing I knew, the fruit was gone. I sigh as I still felt hungry. "Don't worry, Charlie went to get more." Silver reasured me, she watched me devour my fruit like a hungry wolf.
At her words, I looked around us. The beach was clean of any polution, which worried me. The forest looked thick with vegetation, which worried me more. "Did you see any people on the Island?" I asked as I kept looking around, "No, but there are plenty of small animals", Silver looked confused at my worried expression. I sighed at this information, that meant there was no human population on this Island. Which also means, we're screwed. We won't be able to survive here on our own. I kept quiet, I didn't want to worry Silver. I'll talk to Charlie once he gets back.
