The wobble in Yunjin's bottom lip was downright embarrassing.

She glanced in the rearview mirror, stuck sitting at a red light as Chaewon made small talk with Dae-hyun in the back. Honestly, Chaewon was downright gorgeous in a long deep red dress, her hair curled the slightest amount and face painted like a greek goddess.

They hadn't spoken about last night.

Honestly, seeing Chaewon sit next to Daehyun and pretend to be his date all night was going to be the worst part of it all, but what else was Yunjin supposed to do? Here she was, dressed up in some suit she had bought for cheap, only geared up enough to literally play bodyguard. She hadn't argued. There wasn't any room to be arguing in a situation like this.

Maybe it was her fault. She gave up on leads too quickly and instead just wanted to kiss Chaewon like it would fix everything.

Whatever. The light turned green and Yunjin fixed her attention onto pressing the accelerator to move forward.

On the edge of Seoul was a good handful of very large estates tucked in the quieter parts. One of the members of parliament was holding a charity ball, and supposedly all the funds from the sold off items were going to be handed off to the children's hospital.

Dae-hyun was set for his public appearance and to make a grand speech. Show off to the public how amazing he was. Yunjin needed to stay vigilant because if her only current lead was a godamn hypothesised drug ring, then failing to do her job would mean she's screwed.

Whatever. Whatever.

Yunjin pulled up and stepped out. She grit her teeth to ignore the pang in her eyes and in her chest as she opened the door for Chaewon and Dae-hyun. Once out, her hand drifted backwards until she assumed the valet had grabbed the set of keys.

Chaewon glanced back at Yunjin, milky brown eyes muddling in an expression Yunjin couldn't even read. She turned away and fiddled with her earring until Yunjin heard the crackle in her earpiece.

Well. At least she would still be able to hear everything, even if she couldn't physically stand next to Chaewon and cling onto her for everything.

Yunjin tightly followed behind through the media that crowded the front stairs, helping the pair get through. Dae-hyun did well, smiling and waving as he looked around, letting the cameras soak in every single little thing in. Once inside, the press died down enough to where Yunjin knew she'd have to split off from the other two – though reluctant.

Yunjin instead walked straight for the largest room in the building, of what appeared to be a makeshift dining room that had been broken down enough to house drinks and a selection of finger food along the wall. Already the room was filled with every wealthy and influential person possible that could make a good name for the event.

Yunjin slowed her pace and began to circle the room, her eyes trained on the crowd in an attempt to notice if anything or anyone was acting off. Yet the only thing she could focus on was the sound of Chaewon in the ear piece. If she wasn't so focused on every little thing, Yunjin would have missed it, but she could very faintly hear the sound of Chaewon talking to herself.

And god, was it absolutely adorable.

Yunjin could so easily fall even harder a second time just because .

She shook it off and turned straight to walk around the premises. She was supposed to be there and map everything out. Every single entry-way possible, despite workers and security littered everywhere. They would have noticed if someone out of the blue suddenly appeared on the doorstep of such a high class event. Surely.

The radio crackled. "Yeoja?"

"Unnie?" Yunjin whispered a little too quickly. She immediately pressed herself up against the nearest wall, just to try and focus on the crowd as she listened. "What's up?"

"Give me a distraction." She breathed. "Yeoja... this guy–"

Yunjin smiled, her head dipping. She stared down at herself dressed in the shabby suit. She could take this small win if Chaewon was even speaking to her. "Nothing to note. All exits checked, everyone working has been ID-checked and most guests. Everything seems good."

"They're about to start speeches, and Dae-hyun-ssi has been elected to help read out some things and items for the charity part of it. I'm going to be up there with him for the sake of appearance."

That was going to be a little harder to ignore, but Yunjin could handle it.

She had a sinking feeling– and she usually trusted her gut, but instead she just managed to gently hum in response. Yunjin looked up and realised she was on the wrong side of the room while the crowd was quickly thickening. "I'll see you there."

Chaewon was armed, somehow or another. So was Yunjin. Why worry?

Yunjin whipped her head around. They hadn't been there too long, but the moment the announcement was formed people were quickly clustering like it was nothing, and Yunjin really felt the panic kick in.

There wasn't a clear cut pathway to Chaewon.

Yunjin sped up, gently using her shoulders and elbows to move through towards the stage, where the sound of some older man echoed over the microphone. Camera flashes all around her clicked, the bright lights enough to send her head spinning.

In the rush, Yunjin spotted a man out of the corner of her eye. He looked vaguely familiar, and only when he dipped into the crowd did she realise who he was.

One of the men she had chased on their first day with Dae-hyun, who had been in that theatre room and actively fleeing from them.

"Oh fuck–" Yunjin sped up. She was at a significant disadvantage with her height, and was already faulting in trying to follow him. She continued to shove her way through, but the commotion was clearly drawing zero attention to Chaewon up on the stage with Dae-hyun, too distracted by the formalities rolling on screen.

What was Yunjin supposed to even do? It was her job, after all.

By some miracle, Yunjin managed to reach the guy. She grabbed the back of his head and tackled him down to the ground face first. Her other hand flew to her ear to try and click on the radio in a feeble attempt to get Chaewon at least aware of the situation at hand.

The man underneath her grunted loudly, his thick muscled arms flailing around. Attention was quickly switching to them, and in a split second that Yunjin tried for her gun to keep him down, he snapped his elbow up right across her stomach.

Yunjin cried out, body slipping off him. The culprit had already pulled out a gun of his own from his belt, aimed towards the stage.

Chaewon was up and standing, her panicked voice lost in the screams of the crowd. She was busy pushing Dae-hyun behind herself, her hand sliding down her back to clearly try and grab at her weapon.

Yunjin turned her head when she felt the culprit slip. She reached down to immediately wrap her hands around his throat.

Instead, his fist met the side of her face, and the last Yunjin caught sight of was Chaewon's body collapsing in a river of red.
