The morning sun barely cut through the cool air as I walked toward the barrack's bulletin board which was near my office. My squad was already up and about, going through their morning routines. I watched them for a moment, their faces calm and focused, completely unaware of the strange web I was trying to untangle. They had no idea that yesterday's relief had dissolved into today's confusion.
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. The so-called mission my squad had disappeared on—it didn't sit right with me.
I reached the board, eyes scanning the documents posted there. One after the other, I checked the papers, going through them carefully, methodically. There had to be something—some record, some sign of the order my squad claimed I gave. The mission with my signature. But it wasn't there.
There was nothing.
No trace of it at all. My eyes moved over the documents again, my fingers pulling papers aside, hoping I missed something. I even checked the back, the sides—every nook and cranny of that board. But the order my squad had mentioned didn't exist.
It was like it never existed.
"Smart," I whispered, frustration creeping into my voice. My mind was racing now. I hadn't sent them. There had been no official orders, no signature, no authorization. And yet, they swore they saw my name, the squad's insignia on that document. How could something like this just vanish?
The more I thought about it, the more my stomach twisted. The person who fabricated the mission had done a damn good job of making it look real. Real enough that my squad had gone without question.
I stood there, staring at the empty board for what felt like too long, trying to force a lead. But nothing came up. Why would someone go through the trouble of creating a false mission, only to have my squad return as if nothing had happened? It didn't make sense.
"Come on at least a clue or something? No document means no clues. If only i had it... I could check for paper manufacturer , ink supplier , hand writing .Heck even come up with a criminal profile right then and there." I thought to myself , internally damning the culprit.
"Time to build up defences and start my counter move."
I returned to my office absent-mindedly in my own world.
"Someone looks distracted. Let me guess daydreaming about knocking off work , plotting another prank on Captain Shunsui with Lieutenant Nanao's help or just plain scheming?" Hisagi remarked as he closed my office's big doors behind him.
"Omg, Mom is concerned about me... I am going to grow up an emotionally matured young woman." I replied sarcastically.
"Well, you are my captain."
"Yes , I am . And this captain is going to order you to gather the entire Squad 9 at the Barracks Square in 10 minutes." I commanded smiling.
"Ar- Are you serious? What's with the urgency . A squad wide meeting has never been called since the announcement of your appointment . Are you going to scold us...? ARE YOU GOING TO QUIT ?" Hisagi exclaimed with a surprised look on his face.
"You'll find out with the rest. Now go before I start the timer and fire you."
