Day after day, Jungkook noticed Taehyung pulling further away from him. Every time Jungkook tried to approach, Taehyung would quickly create distance, avoiding eye contact or turning the other way. Jungkook wasn't used to people avoiding him like this, and while at first, it irritated him, it soon turned into a frustrating puzzle. Every time he tried to say something, even a simple "hello," Taehyung would slip away like he didn't want to be seen with him.
It continued like that until one afternoon.
Jungkook was passing by the courtyard when he spotted a familiar scene: Taehyung standing by his locker, surrounded by members of the rugby team. They were sneering, shoving him lightly, mocking him as usual. Jungkook's fist instinctively clenched, but then he stopped himself. Why should he get involved? Taehyung had been avoiding him for days, making it clear he didn't want anything to do with him. Maybe it was time to stop caring.
He stood there for a moment, watching as one of the rugby players snatched Taehyung's drink and casually dumped it over his head. Water spilled down, soaking Taehyung's hair and drenching his uniform. Jungkook's expression darkened, but he remained where he was, deciding not to interfere.
Taehyung, though humiliated, felt a strange sense of relief wash over him. He noticed Jungkook in the distance but saw him walk away, choosing not to intervene this time. Maybe it was better this way—Jungkook wasn't going to get involved, and that meant less trouble for both of them.
But then, things escalated.
As the water soaked through Taehyung's uniform, turning it almost transparent, one of the rugby players reached out, his hand moving toward Taehyung's chest with a disgusting smirk. "Looks like no one's coming to save you now, huh? What a pity."
The air shifted in an instant.
Before the player's hand could make contact, Jungkook appeared out of nowhere. His fist connected with the guy's face in one swift motion, the sound of the punch echoing across the courtyard. The rugby player staggered back, clutching his jaw, shocked by the sudden attack.
Jungkook didn't stop there. He grabbed the next closest player by the collar and shoved him hard against the lockers, his eyes burning with rage. "You think this is funny?" Jungkook growled, his voice low and dangerous. The team's usual bravado crumbled under Jungkook's fury, and one by one, they started backing away, realizing this wasn't a fight they wanted to pick.
"Jungkook, man, we were just messing around!" one of them stammered, holding his hands up in surrender.
"Touch him again, and you'll regret it," Jungkook spat, glaring at each of them. His grip on the player's collar tightened for a moment before he finally released him, watching as they quickly scattered, leaving Taehyung alone.
For a few seconds, there was nothing but the sound of labored breathing and the fading footsteps of the rugby players. Jungkook finally turned to look at Taehyung, his eyes softening as he saw the state he was in—soaked and shaken, his uniform clinging to him in the most humiliating way.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asked, his voice quieter now, the edge of anger gone.
Taehyung didn't respond immediately. His eyes were wide, still processing what had just happened. But instead of gratitude or relief, there was something else in his expression—something that made him step back, almost flinching away from Jungkook's concern.
"I didn't ask for your help," Taehyung whispered, his voice trembling slightly. He looked away, his face flushed with embarrassment, not just from the bullying but from the fact that Jungkook had been the one to step in.
Jungkook's brows furrowed, confused and a little hurt by the response. "I know you didn't," he said softly. "But that doesn't mean I'm going to stand by and watch them treat you like that."
