"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.""
John 13:34-35 NKJVLet's break this down!
Context: Jesus had just finished His last meal with His disciples. One of the twelve, Judas Iscariot, had betrayed Him and left to plot with the high priest. Jesus shared His parting words with the rest of the disciples, instructing them to love others as He loved them.
How can we live out John 13:34-35?
Think of all the "Judases" in your life. Maybe it's a so-called friend who likes to poke fun at you when you're hurt. Or maybe it's a family member who's just a little too passive-aggressive. Reread the Scripture again. How can you show love to those people today, even if it's just from a distance?
Prayer: Dear Lord, loving others is not easy. There are some days that I don't feel like showing love to those who have wronged me. Forgive me when I hold back from showing Your love to them. Open my heart to pour out the love You have for me. Even if we're at arm's length, give me the grace to love them as You have loved me. In Jesus name, amen.
