"Taytum. Get up." I hear my brother Tristan say in an annoyed tone.

I ignore him and turn onto my side, hoping to go back to sleep.

"Taytum!" Tristan yells and I groan in annoyance.

"What do you want? You know I was planning on sleeping in today before I go this afternoon to help Kara and her family."

"I know sis and I'm sorry for waking you up but I need you to take me to Mark's house. You know he invited me to go fishing with them today. My car will not crank and I need to leave in 25 minutes." Tristan explains as I rub the sleep from my eyes.

"Fine, let me get up and get dressed. Did mama and mom make breakfast?" I question as I look at my brother because I need feed in my system.

"Yeah, it was in the oven set on keep warm when I woke up. You know they always make breakfast and I'm glad because I was starving."

I laugh at Tristan because he is always hungry. "You're a bottomless pit TJ, you're always starving. Now get out so I can get ready."

I get up and head to the bathroom to quickly shower and brush my teeth. As soon as I'm dressed I go to the kitchen to eat breakfast so I can take Tristan to his friend's house. As I sit down to eat, mama sends a text in our family group message, telling us she is the new principal at Alamo Vista. Tristan and I both text back telling her congratulations. I also text that I am proud of her. Mom responds with "This calls for a celebration!"

I am so very proud of mama. She has worked so hard and nobody deserves that job more than her. I'm glad that out of 11 applicants, mama was the one chosen. She was principal before at Alamo Vista and had quit. I'm not sure why she quit back then because when I had asked she just said it was the right thing to do.

It's pretty cool that mama will be principal Tristan's senior year at Alamo Vista. She was my senior AP English teacher and I loved having my mama as my teacher. Of course she was more strict on me but she is such an amazing teacher. Everyone loved having her as a teacher, especially the stupid horny boys that were my class. I literally threatened to beat the shit out of them if they kept sexualizing mama.

After dropping Tristan off, I decide to head on to Kara's house. I was supposed to go to Kara's later this afternoon to help her family load their U-Haul since they're moving. I just figured since I was already out I would go on over there and spend a little extra time with my best friend.

Kara has been my best friend for nine years plus she is also my ex-girlfriend. She always said she was straight but she kissed me out of nowhere one day, telling me that she liked me and had liked me for a while. I was caught off guard by her actions and pushed her away then she practically begged me to give us a shot even though I told her I didn't feel the same.

I didn't have the heart to tell Kara no because she seemed so hopeful so I agreed to give it a try for a month or two. At the end of that time I still wasn't attracted to her and had no type of feelings like that and told her so. She said I might realize I actually did have feelings for her but I knew my feelings would not change. We only dated for one month before ending it because I just couldn't do it. I was honest with Kara about my feelings and again explained that I only saw her as my best friend. It wasn't fair to her or myself if both of us didn't feel something for each other. She was fine with it and said she understood.

The day after I ended it, Kara called and told me she was moving to West Virginia. Her dad is in the Army and was reassigned so they had to move. I pull into the driveway at Kara's and I'm a little confused. Their vehicles are not here and neither is the U-Haul. I grab my phone and send Kara a text to find out what's going on. My phone vibrates and it's from Kara. I quickly opened her message. "We had to leave earlier than expected. I didn't bother letting you know because I figured you only offered to help in the first place because you felt bad for breaking up with me."
