She was losing her mind; the calls kept coming in. Parents wanted to know what was going on. This was not what she expected when the family lawyer had told her that her aunt's properties now belong to her.
The detective stepped into her house, and she silently prayed that the killer had been found.
"Something is wrong, Principal," Laura said, her voice unwavering. "My prime suspect, Kayode Abundude, doesn't fit the killer's profile, but he seems to know who the killer is, but he's not willing to talk."
"How are you going to catch the killer?" Miss Magaji asked, her voice laced with concern. "Parents are starting to get worried. I've been receiving non-stop calls from them; I actually got some threats."
Silence fell between them, the only sound the dripping of water from a nearby tap. Laura tapped her foot as she pondered the situation.
Miss Magaji sighed; somehow, she knew Holy Rosary Academy would soon be out of business.
"Don't worry, Principal," Laura stated firmly. "As long as I am still alive, I will bring that killer to justice."
"Which stupid point?" Goldie fumed, glaring at Itoro. "That's all you have to say to support the fact that she's an accomplice? I always knew you were stupid. She heard something that you didn't hear, and that suddenly makes her an accomplice to a master killer?"
"How are we so sure you're not the killer sef?" she scoffed. "If you guys are ready to go to the staff quarters, call me. I'm waiting in class. I can't come and die for exams," King said, heading to the classroom.
"You're mad," Itoro retorted.
"I don't blame you; is that your mumu father I blame?" Itoro added, fueling Goldie's anger.
Goldie moved closer, raising her hand, ready to strike. Immediately, Ajmal rushed in and pulled her to him, telling her to calm down, which only made her more angry.
"Don't touch me!" she slapped his hands away.
"Okay, there's a body in our midst; what do we do with it?" Ebosetale shouted, clapping her hands.
"The usual," Mister Obidike said, moving closer to Chidinma and trying to hold her hands, which only made her squirm. "Alert the principal and send for the detective."
"What's going on here?" Idara made her way to where her classmates were gathered. A gasp escaped her lips, and her palms flew to her mouth when she saw the lifeless body of Aize on the floor with a knife sticking out of her chest.
"We heard struggles?" Ekaete started.
"Chidinma heard struggles; no one else did," Bem cut in.
Ekaete shot Bem a glare for interrupting her and then narrated the full story to Idara.
"Are you alright?" Naeto pulled her to him.
Mister Obidike made a call to the principal. Chidinma shook her head and squeezed his hand for comfort, then pulled away from him and walked into the classroom.
Zite was about to go after her, but Naeto stopped him.
"I've got this. Why don't you settle your issues with your best friend?" he said with a twisted scowl and went in the same direction as Chidinma.
When he walked in, she had her back to him. He watched as her hands cleaned her face.
"I want to go home. Nothing makes sense anymore," she said, her voice cracking.
He pulled her to him in a tight hug.
"What if Goldie's right, and I'm not so lucky a second time? I don't want to die, Naeto," Chidinma pleaded.
