"Someone wants to kill you", Goldie asked. Chidinma nodded, staring at a pacing Goldie. "Are you sure you're fine?"
"How can I be fine when someone wants to kill my best friend?", she said a bit too fast and loud "... and may be in this school", she stopped pacing and added the last in a whisper.
"Yes", Chidinma answered.
"How can you be so sure?"
"I had a dream-"
"You see! No one is trying to kill you, it was just a dream", Goldie cut her off.
"Would you just listen?", Chidinma said through her teeth in frustration. "I mean, you're the one who told me all dreams have a meaning".
Goldie nodded and zipped her lips with her fingers.
"I was running in the bush and someone was chasing me with a knife, I fell, branches tore my skin and I got my foot stuck in a root", she said,fear gripping her heart.
"Here you can hold my hands", Goldie said, stretching out her hands. She nodded in appreciation. As she focused on Goldie's hands , she calmed down a bit. She continued,"I'm not sure if the person was a male or female. I pleaded with the person to let me go but then I collapsed", she finished and looked up at Goldie's eyes that were still trying to comprehend things.
"When I woke I thought it was just some nightmare but when you mentioned the bruises on my knees..."
Goldie facepalmed," You could have scratched yourself while sleeping", she muttered,"Because the thought of someone trying to kill you, in school?"
"I don't..."
Goldie quickly covered her mouth with her hand and pointed to the door. They were meant to be alone since it after school hours and nobody liked staying in class.
Chidinma followed her finger to the base of the door and noticed someone behind the door.
Slowly they walked to the door but before they could pull open the door, the shadow was gone.
Goldie quickly pulled the door to find only Berakah in the passage.
"Berakah", Goldie called and watched as her posture stiffened before she turned to face them.
Chidinma watched her cautiously,"What are you doing standing in the passage just like that?"
"Nothing Miss Magaji asked me to look for junior students who tried to avoid labour", she said and quickly walked away.
They watched as she disappeared before Goldie said,"We have to be very careful. Your dreams aren't to be heard by everyone". Chidinma inhaled and nodded in agreement.
Chidinma was surprised at how hardworking Zite was. He supervised the junior students in clearing the weeds diligently. She watched as Ekaete said something to Naeto and they both bursted into loud laughter.
She moved slowly towards them and then Bem nudged Naeto to look behind.
Naeto gave her a full blown smile and then walked up to her." Hey, are you okay? You look stressed",he asked with a worried face.
"I'm fine Naeto"
"You sure?",he placed his palm by the side of her face and caressed her cheeks with his thumb.
"Naeto come back to work and stop flirting with your girlfriend",Abeo shouted causing Chidinma to smile.
"Stop teasing her Abeo",he shouted back.
"But it's the truth na you guys have been acting like boyfriend and girlfriend since",Aize added with a grin and the guys laughed.
"Don't you think so Ekaete?",Toro asked with a knowing glint in his eyes.
"Let's hurry up with our labour before Miss Magaji comes here and finds out we've done nothing", she turned away and picked up a broom. Toro bursted into a boisterous laughter. He had overheard her discussing with Uyai how much she liked Naeto.
"Has anyone seen Berakah?", Ekaete said, annoyed.
"It's true oo, she's the one that is meant to write the labour list",Aize said.
Toro smiled,he had a hunch on were she might be and with whom as well
