The Edge of Escape

The sun was low on the horizon as Miwa slowly reached the agreed meeting point. A remote place, surrounded by tall, wild trees, far away from the hectic hustle and bustle of their world - just as Mechamaru had intended. She felt the gentle evening air brush her face as she went deeper into the forest. The place was strangely calming, but at the same time she felt a nervous tension rising in her. She couldn't say exactly why, but something about the silence made her restless.

In the distance, she could see Mechamaru. He stood with his back to her, his head slightly down, as if he was deeply in his thoughts. A faint smile crept over her lips as she saw him like that. She knew that he had been going through many difficulties lately, but in her presence he always seemed to become a little softer, less bitter.

"Mechamaru?" She called softly as she approached.

He slowly turned to her, his eyes sparkling in the dim light of the sunset. "Miwa..." he whispered. His voice was rough, as if he had fought with himself before he said those words.

He had long thought about what he would say to her. The countless nights in which he caught himself staring into his new, complete body and thinking only of it. To the life they might be able to live together. A life away from curses, struggles and constant sacrifices. A life that would be just... normal.

But could he really tell her the truth? Would she even understand him? Mechamaru felt his hands clenched into fists. The truth was that he didn't do all this just for her. It was also about himself. For his longing for a normal life, for a body that did not cause him constant pain, for an existence that would not depend on Mahito's cruel experiments.

"Miwa..." he continued again, "I've been thinking for a long time about what I really want. What I really... need."

His voice trembled slightly as he spoke. Butterflies spread in his chest as she got closer to him. It was hard to keep those feelings under control - this desire to touch her, to be with her. For the first time in his life, he felt really alive, but it was also a terrible torment.

Miwa could see that something was wrong with him. His gaze was more intense than usual, deeper, as if with every word he spoke, he distanced himself even more from the world in which they were. A strange feeling creeped up on her as he continued speaking.

I want to help him, but how?

She wondered what was going on in his head. Since she had met him, Mechamaru had always been a mystery - quiet, reserved and yet always somehow there to support her. And now that he was standing in front of her, she felt that it was even more. Something in her pulled her to him, but she couldn't quite explain it.

Is it pity? Affection? Or maybe... something deeper?

"Mechamaru... What do you mean?" she asked cautiously. She didn't want to push him, but she couldn't ignore the lump in her throat.

He looked at her, his eyes desperately looking for an answer in her face. "I want to get out of here, Miwa." His voice was now firm, determined. "Away from all this. Of the curses, the fights, the constant danger. We could..." He faltered briefly before continuing to speak: "...run away together. Leave everything behind. Start a new life. Just you and me, somewhere far away from this world."

Miwa was speechless.

What does that mean?

Does he really want to give up everything?

Just leave behind the life they both knew? She felt her heart beat faster. Part of her was fascinated by the idea - the thought of being in safety with him somewhere, away from all the chaos, was tempting. But at the same time, everything in her screamed that it wasn't so easy.

"I..." she began, but the words got stuck in her throat. She didn't know what to say.

I cant...

Suddenly, however, she felt a disturbing energy penetrating the air. Mechamaru immediately turned around, his senses tense. It was too late.

"Miwa... We have to go," he said, his voice now full of urgency.

But before they could take even a step, Mahito and Geto emerged like shadows from the darkness. Their menacing presence permeated the peaceful atmosphere, and the silent security that Mechamaru and Miwa had felt for a brief moment broke.

"Where are you going?" asked Mahito with a mocking grin. "I thought we still had a lot to talk about, Mechamaru."

Miwa felt her heart race. Everything in her wanted to escape, but she couldn't move. Her thoughts shurled.

What is Happening?

What would I do now?

Should she accept Mechamaru's offer and leave everything behind? Or was it too late?
