CHAPTER 4 PART 1

(Y/N’s POV)

“You seem troubled..? Are you alright?” I snapped out of my trance as Kaiser pointed out how much I’ve been zoning out. I looked up, seeing how he looks all calm and charming. Are bartenders usually like this?? Or is he a different breed?

The cafe was indeed not that far from my workplace so I thankfully got to rest after that conference and I somehow never been here. The ambiance was like any other cafe, they served warm coffee and the customer service was great. We decided to sit down for a bit to let the line by the cashier lessen.

“Oh, I’m fine. Maybe it’s just because of the conference earlier.” I sighed, glancing at him as I noticed how intrigued his face looked, almost making me want to laugh out loud. “You look like a damn puppy with that look, Kaiser.” His eyes widened as he let out a giggle. It’s true how much a person can change as the years pass whether they like it or not. “Just curious, tell me what happened.” He leaned forward with his chin resting on his hand, his eyes shifted outside and back to me as he showed that he’s ready to listen anytime. “Just kidding~! We don’t have to talk about it.” I didn’t expect him to say that, was he worried? My eyes widened as I slowly smiled. I leaned to the window as I embraced the warm atmosphere. “Let’s talk about school then?” I suggested making the conversation more engaging. I wanna know what his life’s like in school from his perspective. He chuckled, nodding.

“Well, it wasn't that interesting but it was stressful how much I needed to catch up with others, with all our peers and the school council . I used to go to a different school before the one we graduated at. I only moved since I was always bullied and teased so even though I seem popular, it's just because I wanted to avoid repeating the same thing again yet it only exhausted me and it wasn't fun.” I.. didn't expect this from him. I never knew he had a part of him like that, he always used to look cold to me but every person has a hidden side within. This somehow made me feel better about my old self. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.” I apologized, worrying that I might've made it awkward. He shook his hand, saying that it's alright. I suddenly remembered the graduation photo we took before that I found last night. “I found our old grad photo last night.” I beamed as I shuffled my bag to look for my phone, good thing I took a photo of it. Kaiser waited as he smiled at my childlike demeanor, it's like I was showing a parent what I found in some random places. I took out my phone, opening my gallery. “Here! We look so different from before!” I placed the picture between us as we leaned over to look at it. Everyone there looked happy while I was a little gloomy. Our teacher sat in the middle along with the principal with the huge stage at the back. I was impressed how the photo hasn't faded yet after so many years. It feels nostalgic to be honest. I felt a set of eyes on me as I looked up to see Kaiser with the sincerest smile, making me tilt my head out of curiosity. “Sorry, it's just nice to see how cheery you are despite the past.” I smiled back, it's true but it's all in the past now. I’ve already forgotten what the place even looked like so maybe visiting it won't be that bad. “Thanks, it doesn't bother me as much anymore.” He acknowledged. Suddenly, he took my phone from my table and sent the picture to my number. “I lost mine so~” I rolled my eyes as I snatched my phone back as he smirked playfully. I looked back at the line, my jaw dropped. How the hell is the line longer?! Wasn't it like 5 people earlier? Kaiser chuckled awkwardly as he noticed the line too. It seems that we got too engaged with the conversation that we didn't even notice.

All of the sudden, a woman holding a pen and paper approached us, it seems that she works here judging by her uniform. Me and Kaiser looked at each other before the woman spoke. “I apologize for the long line at the cashier. May I take your orders?” She smiled politely after handing out a copy of the menu for us to choose. We took our time to pick, “What would you like? It’s on me.” I tilted my head from the sudden offer before cheekily picking the food I love. Free food! This is how a man should be, ladies. I finished picking mine, informing him as he chose his. “Alright. She’ll have the Berry Custard pastry and I’ll have the French Vanilla.” The woman acknowledged as she wrote it all down after assuring that she got it correctly. She left to catch the other customer’s orders. I turned to Kaiser with a puzzled look, “How come you only ordered coffee?” I questioned him, he chuckled as he rubs his cheek sheepishly. “The waiter already left, I can’t change my or-”

“Let’s share my order.” I cut him off, his eyes widened then snickered. I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms as I leaned over my seat. He came from work, I’m sure he’s a bit hungry! Was he shy or sacrificed his money to pay for my meal?

Either way, I might burst out laughing if he ever admitted. He accepted my offer just as the waiter came to serve us our order. I noticed how big the pastry was, it looked appetizing. The caramel glaze with the berries clustered on top and the bread is just soft and tender! Very warm too. I smiled contentedly as I placed it between us, it seems that the waiter gave us two forks even if the order was for me. I swear that person was up to something. I looked up at Kaiser who was warming his drink as he stared outside. Is his mind occupied right now? I leaned towards him as I tapped his shoulder. “You should look at me instead.” I smirked as I sat back down, handing him the other fork as he froze from what I said. I laughed cheekily as I enjoyed his face just now. He slowly grinned, taking my teasing lightly as I scoffed. I looked down at the food, realizing what I just did. How the hell did I say that! That’s so embarrassing.. My cheeks turned to a light pink color as we both dug in. He noticed how my demeanor changed as he sipped his coffee. We carried on with the conversation, getting to know each other more and catching up.
