ANNIKA

I and Aaryan were drinking our coffee when Shaym comes downstairs. Aaryan hadn't said much about what just happened...but I think I know why Siddharth was so agitated.

"I'm sorry about that bhabhi" Shaym says as he takes his seat

"Is he okay?" I ask him

"Yes..he was just........" he sighs

"I don't think he will be okay when he learns that I invited your parents." I say remembering how angry he was when I talked about it yesterday

"I think so too." he says

Just then the doorbell rings.

Shaym looks at me. I nod as I stand up to invite in my in-laws.

"Good morning aunty ... uncle." I say greeting them

Siddharth's father just grunts in response.

"What are you two doing here?" his mom says addressing Aaryan and Shaym completely ignoring me

"We were here to see bhai." Shaym says

I notice that Shaym too doesn't seem comfortable around his mother.

Pammi aunty brings coffee for both of them. There is an awkward silence. Uncle starts a small conversation with Aaryan and Shaym about the business while....aunty keeps looking at me with a look of degradation.

"Is there anything you want?" I ask her

"Well, I would like to know where Siddharth is." She says

"Ill...I'll get him." I say

My heart keep beating faster as I approach his room. Taking a deep breath, I knock on his door.

"Come in." I hear him say

I enter the room to be greeted by the view of him buttoning his shirt. He looks up at me.

"Uh..I" I turn around

I feel him walk up to where I was and stand close behind me.

"What is it that you wanted to say?" he asks

I turn to face him. I don't dare to look at him.

"Your..your parents are here." I say

There is silence for a while which makes me look at him. His eyes are shut closed, hands fisted.

He clenches his jaw before opening his eyes.

"And they got here by themselves. Without me inviting them?" he says

Before I even spoke I think he knew the answer.

"What did I tell you? hmm?" he says

"Uh..I just..." I start

"You know I felt bad about how I behaved this morning. I thought after yesterday I shouldn't have treated you the way I did." he says

My heart drops at his next words.

"Obviously, I was wrong. You just don't respect me or my words. You just have to go ahead and ruin everything." he shakes his head as he steps back

"I don't even want to look at you." he continues

"Siddharth...I just didn't want your parents-" I try

"Get out." he says in a biting tone

I flinch at his tone.

I go downstairs. Tears brimming my eyes. I know what I did was wrong and I even expected this reaction from him but it doesn't make this less painful.

"Well?" I hear my mil say

"He will be here In a minute." I say not making eye-contact with her.

We are all seated at the dining table when Siddharth walks downstairs.

He pauses when he notices his father sitting on the head of the table. His father just stares back at him.

"Well? this isn't the greeting I was expecting especially after you wife invited us over." he says in a mocking tone

"I didn't. Yet you shamelessly show up." he says walking over to take the opposite chair

"Ahaha. This isn't how to talk to your parents baby." his mother says

He just gives her a blank stare.

"Siddharth." I say

He looks at me.

"Maybe you could work from home for today." I say

"I'm not. And neither are you. You started just yesterday it will be unbecoming." he says

"I..But-"

"He's right. Guess we will just have to stay for tomorrow too to spend time with you two." his mother speaks again

"*ahem* we will be coming to the company to overlook some documents." his father speaks next

I notice Siddharth clench his fist.

"What do you say dear. It would be lovely if we could get to know each other as a family don't you think? Afterall we don't even know where you are from." His mother says

"I..yes of course." I say lowering my head

"What did you say happened to your parents again? You are an orphan aren't you?" she says

My breath gets caught in my throat. I look up at her.

"Don't look at me like that. Isn't it normal for me to be worried about who my daughter-in -law is." she says

"Enough." Siddharth says loudly

"Ah..I was just stating the obvious son. Aren't I dear?" she says looking at me sternly

"Ye..Yes ofcourse." I say with

I feel Siddharth's glare on me.

"Well great then. Since tomorrow's a weekend we could just come over for two days." she says placing her hand on Siddharth's

He glares at her and pulls his hand away.

"Shaym, Aaryan lets leave." he says standing up

"Yes bhai." Shaym says

"But you didn't even eat anything yet." his father says

"We will get our breakfast at cafeteria dad." Shaym says

With an apologetic look in my direction Shaym and Aaryan walk out.

"Um...I ..I will also.." I say

"How much?" his father says in a cold tone

"Sorry?" I say

"How much did he pay you? And how much will you take to leave?" he says

"I don't-" I take a deep breath

"I and your son love each other. And got married because that was our mutual decision." I say

"Didn't seem like love to me. Considering he just left you to yourself now." his mother says with a smirk

"He....He had an urgent meeting. I have to get going. Please excuse me." I say standing up

I am disappointed that my voice wavered when I spoke but I was barely able to stop myself from crying.
