SIDDHARTH
I arrive at her house at 5. Her sister opens the door. Don't know why I am disappointed. There is a noise upstairs that draws my attention. Annika.
I greet her aunt and uncle. The latter giving me a stern look. I couldn't care less about what her family thought of me.
I look at my future wife. She is looking at me with a slight fear in her eyes. Well she should be scared for what I have planned for her.
Her eyes nervously move to he person standing next to me. I follow her gaze which remains fixed on him. I hadn't talked to him this morning but I did see him as I was leaving.
"I think its time to leave." I try to force a smile for the sake of her family.
Startled she looks at me again as she descends the stairs with her luggage. What is wrong with her. She had also agreed to this deal, hadn't she.
"Annika" I say again as she remains frozen on the bottom of the stairs. Again looking at the same man.
Who is he?
"Ye...yes." She says as she goes to her aunt and hugs her
"Bye ma." She says as she touches her feet
"Bye baba." She touches his feet too
"Jeeti raho meri bacchi." He says as he gives his blessings
"D..di-" she moves to her sister. Who scoffs and goes upstairs.
What the fuck was that about. She was ready to marry a stranger for this woman?
She looks at me. She has been crying I can clearly see that. Did they scold her about getting married in a hurry?
"Lets...lets go." she says to me
"Aree.... did you forget about me princess?" the man finally speaks
I see her flinch at what he said.
"Na...nahi chachu. I di..didn't see you." I see her hand shiver
"Come give your uncle a hug my little princess." he says
Her eyes widen at that. She looks down at the floor.
I hold her hand. I don't care what has gotten her so worked up but she seems uncomfortable right now and I cannot allow that.
"We are getting late. Lets go babe." I say looking at her
But her eyes are fixed on the floor.
I take her bag and and nod at her parents, before taking her out with me. Her eyes are on our joined hands. She doesn't say a word when I open her side of the door to get her seated. Not when I start the car. She doesn't even look back at her aunt and uncle to wave them goodbye. She stays still, looking out of the window. Unmoving.
Does the thought of living with me scare her to this point? Or is it something else.
Well its a good thing that she is quiet. One less thing to worry about. I think as I drive enjoying the silence.
ANNIKA
Finally. I don't have to worry about that monster anymore. But there is a tugging feeling in my heart, will he really leave me alone. I was so shocked by his behaviour earlier that I couldn't think of anything. How could he be so shameless? That too in front of everyone.
