Wangji stood rooted to the spot, his pulse hammering as Wuxian's eyes fixed on him. For the first time, Wangji couldn't read Wuxian's expression—there was shock, confusion, and something else, something that made Wangji's heart beat even faster.
Finally, Wuxian broke the silence, his voice low and tentative. "Wangji... what you just now... did you mean it?"
Wangji looked away, struggling to regain his composure. He felt exposed, like every carefully guarded feeling was on full display. He'd never planned to admit it, least of all in this way. But now, with Wuxian watching him, his curiosity mixed with vulnerability, it was impossible to lie.
"Yes," Wangji said quietly, his gaze dropping to the floor, his voice barely above a whisper. "I... meant it."
Wuxian, his heart pounding, moved forward, grabbed Wangji's hand without another word, pulling him around the corner and down a quiet hallway away from any prying eyes. As soon as they were alone, he turned, leaning in close, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Did I hear that right?" he asked, a mixture of surprise and disbelief in his eyes. "You... you really feel that way about me?"
Wangji nodded.
Wuxian took a step closer, his eyes searching Wangji's face. "Then why did you never say anything? Why didn't you tell me?"
Wangji looked down, hesitating. He took a deep breath, as if steadying himself, before looking up and meeting Wuxian's eyes. "I wasn't sure before. I thought maybe if I kept it to myself, I could.... control it. But I can't hide it anymore. Not from you, and....not from myself."
Wuxian's gaze softened as Wangji's quiet words washed over him, he reached up, resting a hand gently on Wangji's cheek. "But then... what's been holding you back, Wangji?"
Wangji's throat tightened as he closed his eyes, allowing himself to lean slightly into Wuxian's touch, feeling the warmth and sincerity that radiated from him. He'd held back for so long, hiding his feelings, convincing himself that staying quiet was the only way to avoid any pain that might come with it.
"Wangji...."
Wangji's expression shifted, conflicted but resolved. "I don't trust alphas easily," he admitted, his voice barely above a murmur. "But... I trust you, Wuxian. And I can't... I can't ignore how I feel about you." His eyes dropped again, as if baring himself so openly was both a relief and a struggle. "Only you make me feel this way."
"Is it?" Wuxian asked with a smile seeing the omega finally trusts him.
"Wuxian..." His voice was a whisper, raw and unguarded. "I've... wanted this, wanted you, for so long."
"So...." Wuxian's eyes lit up, his face breaking into a wide, heartfelt grin. "So, it's a yes?" he asked, voice hopeful.
Wangji gave a tiny, shy nod, still avoiding his gaze. "Yes..."
Wuxian chuckled, his voice warm. Gently, he raised Wangji's chin with his fingers, tilting his face up to meet his eyes. "I want you to look at me, honey." He softened, eyes filled with affection as he asked, "Are we together now?"
Wangji's lips parted slightly, and he whispered, "Ya..." His cheeks flushed a deep red, the warmth spreading to his ears as he gazed up at Wuxian with a look that was both vulnerable and sincere.
Wuxian's heart raced at the sight of him, unable to hold back any longer. He leaned down, pressing his lips to Wangji's in a kiss that was as deep as it was tender. Wangji's hands instinctively came up, gripping Wuxian's shirt as he leaned into the kiss, their hearts thundering in unison.
The kiss seemed to last forever, and yet not long enough. When they finally parted, breathless and flushed, Wuxian looked into Wangji's eyes, grinning as if he couldn't believe this moment was real. Wangji gazed back, his gaze softer now, his expression filled with a mixture of excitement and wonder, as if finally letting himself accept what he had long been holding back.
