PAECYN

The sun is scorrrchinggggg my skin and me thirsty– in more ways than one. I've been standing off to the side, well we all have been... watching as Jacen tries to explain something to his uncle.

Paw has been smiling hard ever since we pulled up... and now he seems to be mocking Jacen about God knows what. They're always like this so mi nahgo overthink.

*Yuh dem a laugh after clown*

Don't overthink it. Do nottt overthink it.

Kyan: Me nuh understand.
Kyan: Weh u mean all 3 a unuh?

I read as Kyan's replies come in rapidly. I asked her if I'm dumb for coming and she ah act clueless– making it even worse.

Bree, Uwi lady and me
Kyan, u cyaa read?

Kyan: It's giving Jacen's Angels.
Unuh can be dat fi Halloween
next time instead of the
peanut butter and jelly thing.

F*ck off 😂. Me serious
do I look stupid?

Kyan: How u can worry 'bout
weh ppl think so?

I–

How can I not worry? Dem always have my name pon dem tongue and ina dem group chat. Me affi worry.

I sigh, before lifting my head from the phone, deciding not to reply.

"Are you okay?" Melli steps slightly before me.

I nod and offer a short, insincere smile. She is weirdly similar to Mrs.Sheer. The mannerisms, the dress code, her hair, the way she squints when she asks question... but me never see her wid ah glasses yet...

Just a weird carbon copy.

"Bree," Jacen calls.

We all look...

*Bwoy me ah tell you*

Paw starts laughing again and that's when I know he's definitely laughing at us. I step back, trying to separate myself from the bunch while Bree steps off and out to the lot.

It's probably a full acre or two, paved with asphalt and lined with cones that seem to hold the purpose of lanes. I watch as he takes her hand and leads her to the driver's seat of an old-ish SUV– while slight jealousy starts to close my throat.

I clear it and decide to rid my mind of the pettiness. I've never really been jealous of their little thing, so mi nuh know why today woulda be different?

"So, I saw the scandal back then. I'm really sorry that happened to you," Melli decides to speak and to speak of the worst part of my life.

"You didn't deserve that even if you were doing promiscuous things at that ag–"

"Wah?" my face screws into serious confusion.

"Humph," she smiles, while keeping her eyes on the SUV, "anuh supm fi you shame 'bout enuh, ends affi meet."

*And Jacen a meet hers?*
