Hale went into enforcer mode and mobilized the troops to an undisclosed location and on standby. They were getting briefed at eight. Harper sat with Krista. He was scared for Zane and Eve. Harper was scared that Eve was hurt or Zane would die. He just tried to breathe while Hale began to plan. Krista held Harper's hand to keep them both calm. He was on speaker with a captain in the enforcers.
They were getting a plan together. Hale was scared and had a bad feeling. Harper saw some panic in his eyes. He was relieved that they already sent information to everyone. The captain that Hale talked to, Ira Glacier, was putting the Center Council on speaker as well. They needed to know what was going on.
"We know that this Smith will want to trade for the computer and memory stick. They will want a way out. What do we know about Nero?" Hale asked. Nero was in charge of the West Council and part of the Center Council. He was behind all of the terrible videos and in most of them either leading the events or participating in them. Nero was all bad and couldn't be released.
Captain Glacier growled. "I hate that bastard. He's untrustworthy. I know he will lie to get what he wants. I have suspected that is how he got the position on the council. He lied about his resume. I know that he hires prostitutes and they disappear. It's swept under the rug. Clearly from the videos, my suspicions are correct. Don't trust him. He will kill the human, Zane. He will probably kill that human, Smith, as well."
"Not before I do." Charlie declared. He was surprised that he said that outloud. Anders just looked at him. Charlie made a face and shrugged.
"Someone needs to take Smith out and that won't be a challenge." Hale informed them.
Charlie nodded. "Oh, I would love that assignment. I know I'm not an enforcer but I would love to take the human out of the way. I can get to Zane and help him while you and Captain Glacier take care of the vampires that I'm sure Nero is bringing with him." Charlie stopped.
"How do you know that's what he will do?" Glacier asked.
"Well, he's untrustworthy as you say, he's a liar. So naturally, he'll bring backup and he will underestimate you." Charlie smiled. "Sorry. I love this shit! I hope when I'm older I can become an enforcer. Someday. I can read people pretty well. I also know that Smith will kill Zane when the trade begins. We will trade the computer and stick for a dead human. I don't want that so I will take care of Smith and get Zane to safety."
Hale laughed. "You are hired!"
Glacier agreed over the phone. "Sure. Okay. I need to brief my guys on my end. I need everyone else out of the way. We don't need an accident." Hale agreed and hung up with his captain.
"Do you trust Glacier?" Charlie asked Hale.
Hale smiled. "With my life, Charlie."
Charlie nodded. That was all he needed to know.
