As the bustling streets of Sabaody Archipelago grew quieter under the evening sky, Selene "The Moonblade" made her way toward a secluded section of the island, where the crowds thinned, and the air felt heavier with unspoken secrets. She sensed someone familiar lingering in the shadows, waiting—not as a threat, but as a curiosity.

At a dimly lit bar near the edges of Grove 13, Silvers Rayleigh—the "Dark King"—sat at an outdoor table, nursing a drink with an air of quiet amusement. His piercing eyes twinkled beneath the glow of the archipelago's mangrove lamps, as if he had known Selene was coming long before she arrived.

A Meeting of Legends

Rayleigh looked up as Selene approached, offering a sly smile. "Well now, if it isn't the Moonblade herself. I wondered how long it would take before we crossed paths."

Selene stopped a few feet from the table, her gaze calm and unreadable. "Dark King," she greeted with a small, knowing smile. "What brings you here? Sabaody isn't exactly a place for retirement."

Rayleigh chuckled softly, swirling his drink. "I could say the same about you, Admiral. I didn't expect to see someone of your stature relaxing here. Or is this part of a mission?"

Selene shook her head, folding her arms as she leaned against a nearby post. "A week off. Even shadows need rest."

Rayleigh grinned at that, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Wise words. Though, if you've come to Sabaody for rest, you're in the wrong place."

A Conversation Beneath the Surface

Selene's amber eyes glimmered with quiet amusement. "I could say the same to you. But something tells me you're exactly where you want to be."

Rayleigh's smile deepened. "You see through things, don't you? I like that." He took a slow sip from his glass. "Sabaody is unpredictable, chaotic—just like the seas beyond it. It draws people like you and me... those who live on the edges of things."

Selene's expression remained calm, but she knew there was truth in his words. They were both creatures of the in-between, existing between law and freedom, order and chaos. Neither fully belonged to any side, and both thrived in the spaces others feared to tread.

"You're not just here to drink," Selene observed quietly. "What are you waiting for, Dark King?"

Rayleigh's grin softened into something almost nostalgic. "Perhaps... I'm waiting to see what the next generation will do."

A Subtle Exchange of Ideas

Rayleigh leaned back in his chair, studying Selene with quiet interest. "You remind me of someone I once knew. Precise, patient... a bit dangerous."

Selene raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "And who might that be?"

Rayleigh chuckled. "A captain I sailed with a long time ago. He wasn't much for rules either. But he had a way of... changing things."

Selene gave him a small, knowing smile. "Change isn't always welcomed."

Rayleigh's eyes gleamed. "No, it isn't. But sometimes, it's necessary." He paused, swirling the last of his drink. "And from what I hear, you're no stranger to upsetting the balance yourself."

Selene's gaze didn't waver. "I don't care for balance. I care for precision."

Rayleigh nodded approvingly. "And that makes you more dangerous than any Devil Fruit user or admiral. You cut exactly where it matters."

After a moment of comfortable silence, Rayleigh leaned forward, his expression turning more serious. "Careful, Moonblade. You're walking a dangerous path."

Selene tilted her head slightly, a playful smile flickering at the edge of her lips. "Danger doesn't bother me."

Rayleigh chuckled again, but there was a warning hidden in his tone. "It's not the danger that should concern you—it's the ones watching your every step."

Selene's smile didn't falter, but her gaze sharpened slightly. "Let them watch. Shadows don't reveal much."

Rayleigh nodded slowly, impressed by her composure. "Fair enough. But just know this: there are forces at play bigger than the Marines and pirates. You're smart enough to see that, I'm sure."

Selene's amber eyes glimmered with understanding. "I've known for a long time. The question is, what will you do about it?"

Rayleigh smiled slyly. "Me? I'm just an old man enjoying a drink. It's the next generation that interests me now."

Selene gave a small chuckle, sensing the hidden layers in Rayleigh's words. "Watching from the sidelines, are you?"

Rayleigh finished his drink with a grin. "For now. But who knows? Even an old king can't stay out of the game forever."

Selene pushed off the post and gave him a subtle nod. "If you ever decide to get back in, let me know." She turned smoothly, her coat trailing behind her as she began to walk away. "It's always nice to have a worthy opponent."

Rayleigh's laughter followed her as she disappeared into the shadows of the night. "Likewise, Moonblade. Likewise."

End of Chapter 17: A Meeting of Shadows

As Selene made her way back to The Umbra, her mind lingered on the conversation with Rayleigh. The Dark King's words carried more weight than they appeared to. There were forces shifting beneath the surface—forces that would soon test her patience, her loyalty, and her precision.

But Selene wasn't afraid. She thrived in the spaces others feared. Whether it was light or shadow, law or freedom, she moved between them with ease. And when the time came to choose her next step, she would cut exactly where it mattered.

Because shadows never rested—and neither did Selene "The Moonblade."
