The Umbra sailed along the coast of Alabasta, keeping a careful distance behind Smoker's warship as they followed his pursuit of the Straw Hat Pirates. Selene knew the events in this desert kingdom were going to spiral quickly—pirates, revolutionaries, and the Marines were all converging. And at the heart of it all was Luffy and his chaotic crew.
Selene leaned on the ship's railing, her sharp amber eyes scanning the golden sands in the distance. She let out a small, amused sigh. "Garp's grandson always did have a knack for attracting trouble."
A Clash in Rainbase
As events unfolded in the kingdom, Selene stayed on the outskirts, observing rather than interfering. She needed to see for herself what was happening between Luffy, Smoker, and the larger conflict involving Crocodile and Baroque Works. It wasn't long before her patience paid off—in Rainbase, the casino city, things came to a head.
Selene's Observation Haki told her everything she needed to know: Luffy's crew had arrived in Rainbase. Smoker was already there, waiting for them. And somewhere in the shadows, Crocodile's scheme was unraveling the entire kingdom.
Selene's instincts told her to stay close—things were about to explode.
Just as Selene suspected, Smoker managed to corner Luffy inside Rainbase's casino. From a distance, she could sense the tension—Smoker was determined to capture the Straw Hat captain, but Luffy's crew was as chaotic as ever.
Then things took a surprising turn. Crocodile, the Warlord pulling the strings behind Alabasta's rebellion, intervened, capturing both Smoker and Luffy with his Devil Fruit powers. As the two were imprisoned together in the Rain Dinners casino, Selene decided it was time to make her presence known.
Under the cover of night, Selene slipped through the casino's back corridors with ease. Her shadow-threaded hair flicked through the air, disabling guards and unlocking doors without a sound. She followed her instincts, eventually finding the underground cell where Smoker and Luffy were being held.
Luffy blinked in surprise. "Huh? Admiral Selene?"
Selene smiled, her golden eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Hello, Luffy. Long time no see."
Smoker's eyes narrowed. "What are you doing here, Selene?"
With a flick of her wrist, Selene's shadow-threads unraveled the bars of the cell, freeing both Smoker and Luffy. "You two look like you could use a little help," she said, amused by their unlikely alliance. "And you'll need it—Crocodile isn't the type to play fair."
Smoker grunted. "I don't need your help, Admiral."
Selene chuckled. "Of course you don't. But I'll tag along anyway." She winked at Luffy. "Someone's got to make sure you two knuckleheads don't kill each other before the real fight begins."
The Race to Save Alabasta
With Smoker reluctantly accepting Selene's involvement, the three made their way through the casino, encountering Luffy's scattered crew members along the way. Selene found herself amused and impressed by Luffy's eclectic crew—Zoro's stoic demeanor, Sanji's chivalry, and Nami's sharp instincts.
Smoker, however, remained focused on his mission, frustrated that he had to temporarily work alongside pirates. Selene made sure to stay close, keeping a watchful eye on both him and Luffy. She wasn't about to let this chase end in disaster.
As the group escaped Rainbase, Selene gave Smoker a subtle warning.
"Let Luffy handle Crocodile. If you interfere now, you'll just get in the way."Smoker scowled but knew Selene was right. He hated relying on pirates—but Crocodile wasn't just any pirate, and Luffy had proven to be just as relentless as Garp himself.
The Battle Against Crocodile
Selene stayed in the shadows as Luffy confronted Crocodile deep in the ruins of Alabasta. She didn't interfere—this was Luffy's fight to win. But she remained nearby, her guns at the ready, in case Crocodile decided to cheat the odds with something unexpected.
When Luffy finally landed the finishing blow on Crocodile, bringing the Warlord's reign to an end, Selene allowed herself a small smile. "Just like his grandfather," she murmured. "Stubborn to the end."
The Aftermath: Smoker and Selene's Reflection
After the chaos settled, Selene and Smoker stood side by side on a hill overlooking the palace. The rebels had stood down, the city was saved, and Crocodile was in custody. Selene leaned lightly on the railing, watching as Luffy and his crew prepared to leave.
"You going to go after them now?" Selene asked, glancing sideways at Smoker.
Smoker exhaled a cloud of smoke. "They're pirates. They'll keep causing trouble."
Selene gave a soft chuckle. "They're Garp's family, Smoker. Trouble is in their blood."
Smoker grunted, watching as the Straw Hats' ship set sail. "It won't be the last time we meet."
Selene nodded. "No, it won't. But next time, don't get yourself captured again, hmm? Makes you look bad."
Smoker shot her a sideways glare, but there was a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "Thanks for the help," he muttered reluctantly.
Selene grinned. "Don't mention it, Sunshine."
As the Umbra sailed away from Alabasta, Selene couldn't help but feel satisfied. Luffy had survived another impossible challenge, just as she'd expected. And while Smoker was still determined to bring the Straw Hats to justice, Selene knew that the story between them was far from over.
Sitting at the helm, Selene smiled to herself. The world was changing, and she intended to be right in the middle of it.
