The evening at the Jeon household was quiet but laced with anticipation. The house was grand yet warm, filled with the comforting aroma of a home-cooked meal. Taehyung walked into the Jeon living room, feeling oddly out of place. He still didn’t know what the dinner was about, but Namjoon’s cryptic words from earlier lingered in his mind.
Yunji greeted them warmly, offering a kind smile to everyone as they sat down. Jungkook and Yoongi was already there, seated across from them, looking composed but with a hint of something unreadable in his eyes.
Kim Seo Hun, sat at the head of the table. There was an unspoken tension between the two families, something more than just the usual formalities. As everyone took their seats, it was Seo Hun who broke the silence, his voice steady but carrying the weight of what was to come.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to you, Mrs. Jeon,” Seo Hun began, turning toward her with a respectful nod. “I know we had originally discussed the possibility of a marriage between Namjoon and your son Jungkook. But Namjoon has informed me that he is already in a relationship. He wishes to pursue that, and I have decided to respect his choice.”
Namjoon looked at Taehyung knowing he got surprised hearing the marriage proposal. Taehyung looked at everyone and knowing he is the only one who doesn't know about it.
Seo Hun continued, “However, I wanted to extend the same proposal for Taehyung, if you are willing, we can arrange the marriage between them.”
The air seemed to thicken with the weight of his words. Taehyung’s heart raced. He felt completely blindsided, his mind spinning with confusion. Marriage? To Jungkook? He glanced at the younger, but Jungkook’s expression remained calm, as if he had known all along.
Yunji paused, considering the proposal before speaking. “I have no objections to the idea,” she said, her voice kind but firm. “However, I believe it’s important that we hear from Taehyung and Jungkook. This should be their decision.”
Jungkook shifted in his seat slightly, and without hesitation, he spoke up. “I’m okay with it.” His voice was steady, his gaze unwavering as he looked at Taehyung.
Taehyung felt overwhelmed, the reality of what was happening crashing down on him. His heart swelled with emotion fear, guilt, and a strange sense of hope that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
His eyes stung with the threat of tears as he looked at Jungkook, who had been through so much because of him.
Gathering his courage, Taehyung stood up, his voice shaky as he addressed Mrs. Jeon directly. “Mrs. Jeon, I… I don’t even know where to begin. I know I’ve made mistakes in the past. I know I don’t deserve Jungkook, not after all the hurt I’ve caused him.” His voice cracked slightly, but he pushed on. “I’m so sorry for making him cry… for everything I put him through.”
Yunji watched him with a calm yet understanding expression, her hands folded neatly on her lap.
“I’ve spent so much time hiding and denying the truth,” Taehyung continued, his eyes flicking to Jungkook, who was watching him intently. “But he means a lot to me, I was a coward for not standing up for myself and for our love. I know you know about what happened in the past and hope you all forgive me one day".
A lone tear escaped from his eyes and he continued.
"I want to be worthy of him. I want to earn the right to stand beside him." He swallowed, his throat tight with emotion. “I promise… I will make myself someone he can be proud of.”
Without thinking, Taehyung turned to Jungkook and walked toward him, pulling him into a tight embrace in front of everyone. Jungkook stiffened for a moment, surprised, but then slowly relaxed into the hug. Taehyung’s arms tightened around him, and he pressed a soft kiss to Jungkook’s forehead.
“I’ll never hurt you again,” Taehyung whispered, his voice thick with sincerity. “I swear.”
The room was silent, and Taehyung could feel the eyes of everyone on them. When he finally pulled back, Jungkook’s gaze was softer, his expression filled with a quiet kind of acceptance, though he didn’t say anything.
As Taehyung's heartfelt confession settled in the room, Kim Seo Hun’s shock quickly turned into disappointment and anger. He cleared his throat, his gaze hardening as he looked at Jungkook.
"So, you agreed to marry Namjoon fully aware he’s already in a relationship?" Seo Hun’s voice was laced with disapproval. “This was your ‘plan’? Do you have any idea the shame you’ve caused me. both of you?” he asked looking at Taehyung. "You make me apologize for nothing?".
Jungkook remained calm, meeting Seo Hun's piercing gaze with a steady resolve. "Yes, I knew," he replied, his voice steady but carrying a hint of pain. “It was a small revenge, but it’s not about shame, Mr. Kim. It's about you breaking us apart without even knowing the hurt you caused. I thought, maybe, for once, you’d understand what you put Taehyung and me through.”
Seo Hun’s face turned red, his voice raised as he pointed a finger at Jungkook and then at Taehyung. “This is an insult. I won’t tolerate my family’s reputation being dragged into your childish games. I don’t want any connection between the Kim family and the Jeons!”
Namjoon, seeing the severity of his father’s anger, stepped forward, desperate to keep things from crumbling further. “Appa, don... "
“Enough,” Seo Hun stopped Namjoon and again turned towards Jungkook and Taehyung. “You’ve both made your choice, and it’s clear I have no say in it. But don’t expect my support. If you want to move forward with this relationship, do it without my blessing.” With that, Seo Hun turned on his heel and walked out, leaving an uneasy silence hanging in the room.
Everyone got upset when Seo Hun walked out but no one stopped him even Jae Hee. She knows that her husband is angry and need some time to calm down.
Jae Hee looked towards others and finally finally spoke up. Her voice was gentle, but there was a depth of affection in her words. She smiled softly, her eyes filled with emotion. “I can’t tell you how much it means to me to see him like this. To see him happy… to see him trying. I believe in him. I didn't know he was struggling this much when he where abroad he never shared it with me, he always bury everything inside him and hurt himself. May be I was a bad mother who don't notice how much my son is hurting. But I hope he will be happy, he will get the family he always dreamt about with you. Please forgive my son." she said holding Jungkook's hand.
"Eomma... You are not a bad mother, you accepted me wholeheartedly and always treated me like your real son and I am forever grateful for that. And about Jungkook we were planned to tell you everything but the situation got us bad. And I had no idea how to make it better that time. It's not like I don't want to tell you. Sorry if I make you feel like that." Taehyung said sadly.
Mrs. Jeon finally stood from her seat. “Well, now that this is settled, I suppose we should move on to dinner,” she said with a gentle smile, ushering everyone toward the dining table. “We’ll have plenty of time to discuss the details.”
"Eomma what about Appa?" Taehyung asked to Jae Hee.
"I will talk to him. He will be okay." Jae Hee winked at Taehyung.
As they all moved toward the table, Taehyung felt a strange mix of emotions hope, relief, and a sense of peace. For the first time in a long time, it felt like things were starting to fall into place.
And as he glanced at Jungkook, who walked beside him, there was a flicker of something more...a quiet understanding that they were about to embark on a new journey. Together.
