After the event, everyone gathered at the old man's mansion for dinner.
The atmosphere was formal, with conversations flowing between Izuku's parents, Toshinori and Inko, and the old man. They spoke about the future of their businesses and the success of the awards ceremony earlier that evening. Their voices, warm and polite, filled the grand dining room.
At the other end of the table, Bakugo and his friends sat together, their conversation less lively. They couldn't help but glance at Izuku from time to time. She had been cold and distant the entire night, barely acknowledging them. Even though she sat just a few seats away, it felt as if she was miles apart.
"She hasn't said a word to us," Kirishima whispered, looking concerned. "It's like she doesn't even care."
(Todoroki sighed) "She's been through a lot. We can't expect her to be the same."
Bakugo remained quiet, his eyes focused on his plate, but his thoughts were entirely on Izuku.
Every time he looked at her, guilt twisted in his chest. The scars he noticed on her hand earlier in the night haunted him. She had been hurt because of him, and now she was keeping her distance.
Suddenly, Izuku stood up, her chair scraping softly against the floor. Without saying a word, she excused herself and walked out of the dining room, heading outside for some fresh air.
(The boys exchanged glances, unsure of what to do. Kirishima nudged Bakugo.) "We should talk to her. Now it's our chance."
Bakugo hesitated for a moment, then nodded. They quietly stood up and followed Izuku outside.
The night air was cool, and the soft glow of the mansion's lights illuminated the garden. Izuku stood a few steps ahead, gazing out into the night, her back to them.
"Izuku," (Bakugo called out softly as they approached her.)
She didn't turn around, but she didn't walk away either. The boys gathered around, unsure of what to say, but the silence between them felt heavy.
"Izuku, we... we're sorry for everything," (Kirishima spoke first, his voice sincere.) "We miss you. We didn't mean for things to turn out this way."
(Izuku finally turned to face them, her expression unreadable.): "It's not about missing me," (she said quietly, her voice steady but distant): "I've changed. You all need to accept that."
(Bakugo took a deep breath, stepping closer): "We know you've changed, but that doesn't mean we don't care. We just want to make things right."
(Izuku's gaze softened slightly, but there was still a wall between them): "Some things can't be fixed, Bakugo. What happened... it hurt. And I don't know if I can ever forget that."
(Bakugo clenched his fists, the weight of his guilt pressing down on him.): "I know I messed up. I was stupid, and I hurt you. But I-" (his voice cracked slightly): "I still care about you. I never stopped."
(Izuku looked at him, her eyes reflecting a mixture of pain and sadness): "Caring doesn't change what happened. I needed you to trust me, and you didn't."
