chapter iii
" wake thy power "
MAEVE
We are out of the closet. We basically have the whole world on our hands, I mean, as well as an itchy rope wrapped around our wrists, but who cares? Spoiler alert: definitely not Agatha.
She has been ranting about all sorts of stuff, from the ex-wife to Wanda Maximoff. The ex-wife did mention a group of seven that want Agatha dead, which is probably the reason why she is preparing to flee the country. Regardless, Billy did manage to do the spell right, much to my surprise, so we might get some answers out of her before she. . . bye-bye.
Billy has been chasing Agatha all around her house as she is in short of panic mode for having been under that hallucination spell for that much time. Grabbing her kai cloak, she shakes it a little, as if it were covered in dust. "The house is yours, random children."
As funny as it is to watch Billy chase down Agatha, we've got places to be. Billy, realising that Agatha is, for sure, going to leave us here, tries to rip off the duct tape from his mouth by rubbing it against the doorframe. I, however, have a more efficient plan in mind.
I haven't used my magic in a long, long time and I do miss it a lot. I've tried to decrease my dependency on my powers, but since Agatha has other plans. . .
With a wave of my hand, a mix of dark indigo glow appears around the ropes, turning them to dust and setting me free. Before I regret ever using my powers again, I swiftly turn my hand around and a small magic blast takes off Billy's duct tape and cuts the ropes.
I pat some dust off my cargo. When I raise my head, I'm met not only with Billy's dismissive look but also Agatha's shocked expression, staring me up and down and then the dust on the floor.
"Come again?" Agatha raises her eyebrows, the sound of her heels echoing through the hallway as she walks towards us. I shove my hands into my pockets and that's when I notice Billy softly shaking his head, as if telling me to not do anything stupid. What an amazing friend I have. He trusts me with his life. Never, but alright.
Billy rushes, "The Witches' Road." Agatha is taken aback at that. A hint of fear flickers in her eyes but quickly vanishes. "We want you to take us there. Please?"
The familiar burn that I haven't felt in days returns on my wrists and this time it is going to leave a scar. I look down at my hands, a few faint veins slowly turning raven black. I swiftly grab the edges of my sleeves, trying to dismiss this whole—thing, trying to forget it ever happened.
"The Witches' Road doesn't exist," she states, her voice firm and, if I didn't know otherwise, I would have believed her. I swallow down the lump in my throat. I take a step forward, now standing next to Billy.
"But it does. We both know that it does," I assert, not letting her get away with this. We both know that the Road exists, there is no point denying that. And she knows that, yet she chooses to say otherwise.
"Hmm," she hums softly. She stays still for a second, making a decision I'm not sure I want to learn what it is for. For all I know, they'll find me dead in an alley in the afternoon. "The Road is no place for a kid. Let alone two."
Billy, clearly offended, exclaims, "We're sixteen!" A smirk appears on my lips and I follow Agatha to the living room. Glancing back at Billy, I nod to him, signalling him to walk with me. He scoffs, pointing towards Agatha as he walks next to me. I shrug, rolling my eyes. Everyone knows Agatha, one way or another, and she is a—.
