chapter xi
" how long it lasts "
MAEVE
Agatha pours some wine into her glass-and by some, I mean up to the top. "Healthy pour," she adds, placing the bottle on the small table and sighing.
They all look at each other, waiting for anyone but themselves to start drinking. Agatha's eyes travel from one side of the table to another, the silence getting a little too loud.
"If you're waiting for charcuterie, I don't think it's coming," she states, and a fake smile appears on her face as if telling them to dive into their drinks. I mean, Billy did offer some granola bars before they summoned The Road, they should have taken some for a lunch break.
That being said, Mrs Hart picks up her glass and starts gulping down the wine. Lilia looks at her, waiting to see if there are any side-effects but her eyes slowly widen watching Mrs Hart drink the whole glass.
"Oh, okay. Wow," Agatha mumbles, nodding her head, not knowing what else to say to that. I exchange looks with Alice who nods towards Mrs Hart, her eyes filled with questions. I simply shrug, sharing the same look.
Everyone by now has turned their attention to Mrs Hart who, as it looks like, is alive and breathing. Lilia is the funniest of them all, standing next to Mrs Hart, eyeing her with evident worry.
Mrs Hart, noticing all eyes on her, raises her hands up in surrender. "Don't judge me," she begins, wiping some wine from the corner of her mouth, "I have had a very bad day." I totally agree with Mrs Hart, someone fill me a glass, please.
Now that we know that the wine is safe, I wouldn't have a problem downing a glass of wine, even if it's awful. They say it calms the nerves and since everyone is so tense in here and I can literally feel their emotions vibrating in the air, a glass of wine is all I need.
What grabs my attention is a beep sound. I look ahead, to the marble mantel, where the clock is now counting backwards of thirty minutes and, with each passing second a smaller, almost silent beep followed
Great.
Agatha raises her glass hesitantly. "So. . ." she trails off, "To harbingers of doom?" Since no one seemed to make a move, Agatha scoffed, shaking the glass slightly to signal them to just get this over with. The rest of the coven raised their glasses and their hands hovered with uncertainty.
"To the prize," Lilia says, and the four witches clink their glasses together along with MrsHart, sharing looks of pure love and affection-as if-.
I grab the wine bottle that stood on the center of the table for far too long and Billy immediately chimes in. "Can we have some?" he questions, happy to down his surrows with a glass of wine. Easy tiger, we are not middle-aged people yet.
Alice, who is next to me, takes the bottle of my hands. I immediately try to take it back, but she raises her arm, having the bottle hovering over our heads before passing it to Jen, who shook her head 'no'. "No!" They all said in unison. They suddenly remembered to follow the law and not give alcohol to minors. Alice as an ex-cop is a bad influence, I swear.
Only one witch, from whom I was expecting it, doesn't have a problem with us drinking and that's-. "You bet," Agatha exclaims, reaching for the wine bottle in Jen's hands. Since she didn't trust Agatha with it, she was about to pass it over to Lilia, the most responsible in here, but Mrs Hart managed to take it. She poured the remaining wine in her glass as the witches shot Agatha unbelievable looks.
