"Put your loving hand out, baby

Cause I'm beggin"

Negan listened from afar to the conversation between Maggie and Gabe. She was giving him instructions for the priest to undertake a short reconnaissance mission, to get close to the base, see how things were, and return, preferably without being caught. But the older man didn't pay attention to all the details anyway; something else occupied his thoughts.

He leaned against a tree, waiting for her to come to him because he knew she needed his help. Nothing could bring him more satisfaction at the moment than her needing him, needing him by her side. Negan longed for it more than he would admit to himself.

The sun was still very much alive, hidden by the treetops; they had a whole day to work on Maggie's plan. But it wasn't the plan that interested Negan; it was her. Maggie Rhee. He hadn't understood, not until a few hours ago when he had that fight with Maggie.

But now Negan began to understand what his body was telling him about Maggie. Maybe it was something broken in his disturbed mind, something damn sadistic, but it was still there. That absurd attraction, the insane desire to have her, he almost crossed the line. His anger and frustration turning into a crazy urge to kiss Maggie's lips.

However he knew that crossing that line with Maggie would only result in a quick death with a bullet to the middle of the forehead, not something he planned. The man desperately wanted to know what was going on in Maggie's head because he couldn't just forget. Those emeralds haunted him.

Negan straightened up when he saw Maggie say goodbye to Gabe and approach him. She no longer had the fierce expression from the last time they were alone; anyway, Negan thought it wise not to poke the beast to talk about it, at least not for now.

"Look, I'm not going to cut anyone I know," she warned, looking down. "I need you to find four strangers for me."

"Actually, only three," Negan took his Whisperer mask from his jacket pocket and showed it to Maggie with a complicit smile on his face. "I kept my mask for practical and sentimental reasons."

"How did you gain the Alpha's trust, anyway?" Maggie huffed, crossing her arms, she raised a curious eyebrow, waiting for him to tell.

Negan followed her movement, crossing his arms too, and puffed out his chest, very proud that someone had finally asked, and that someone had been Maggie made the feeling even better.

"I'll tell you, it wasn't an easy task, and I had to endure some shit, you know," the man shrugged and approached Maggie stealthily, hoping she wouldn't move away; perhaps her curiosity was greater than her aversion to Negan because Maggie didn't move a muscle. "I had to use all my acting skills; you know I can do that like nobody else." He boasted. "I pretended to be on their side until the right moment, and then..." Negan gestured against his own throat to illustrate what he meant.

"And they let you get close to the leader, the newbie?" Maggie asked incredulously, her eyes narrowed at the man, she didn't realize he had come even closer.

"Well, I also had to use my incredible seduction powers," Negan widened his already smug smile even more, showing his dimples.

"Seriously?" She rolled her eyes, either irritated or disgusted, Negan couldn't tell, but he wished he knew what she really thought about it.

"What? It's true!" He exclaimed, leaning in to speak to her. "You don't know what I'm capable of, I can be irresistible if I want to." His voice came out more drawling and low than he intended. If someone had told him a few days ago that he would be shamelessly flirting with Maggie Rhee, he would have laughed his ass off at such absurdity, but there he was, as subtle as a cannon, crawling for the woman's attention.
