Lydia stood at the edge of the academy grounds, watching as her classmates buzzed with excitement, preparing for the mission to find the magical object hidden in the woods. Eryx had caught her attention earlier, his confession lingering in her mind like the scent of the enchanting flowers that now beckoned her.
“Are you really going to try to find it all by yourself?” Eryx teased, a playful smirk on his face. “I mean, you haven’t even shown any special abilities yet. What makes you think you can do it alone?”
Lydia shot him a determined look. “Just because I haven’t discovered my abilities yet doesn’t mean I can’t find it. I’m not afraid to try.”
“Stubbornness isn’t a magical ability,” he laughed, but there was a glint of concern in his eyes that Lydia didn’t miss.
As the students scattered into the forest, Lydia took a deep breath, pushing aside the doubt creeping in. She would prove them all wrong. She would find the magical object, even if it meant going alone.
Venturing deeper into the woods, Lydia felt an unusual pull, as if the trees themselves were guiding her. The vibrant flowers scattered along the path caught her eye, glowing softly with colors that seemed to dance in the fading light.
Captivated, she followed their luminescence until she arrived at the entrance of a cave, its mouth framed with vines and blossoms that shimmered invitingly.
Before she could think twice, Lydia stepped inside, the cave enveloping her in an otherworldly glow. As the last tendril of light faded behind her, the cave door sealed shut with a soft thud, and Lydia felt a chill run down her spine.
Suddenly, she spotted Eryx standing at the cave's entrance, but something felt off. He looked the same, yet there was an aura surrounding him, an energy that felt different.
“Eryx?” she called out, her voice echoing in the cave. “Is that you?”
But as she stared, she realized he wasn’t exactly the same. The warmth she felt from him was now shrouded in a mysterious haze. Lydia instinctively took a step back. “No. Who are you? Show your true form!”
The figure before her tilted his head, a slow smile creeping across his lips. “You’re sharper than I anticipated, Lydia. But the true question is, are you ready to face what lies ahead?”
Suddenly, the glowing aura intensified around Eryx’s mysterious double, and as if pulled from the depths of the cave itself, his true form emerged. He resembled Eryx but with striking differences: his hair was white as snow, and his eyes shone a piercing blue. He smirked, extending his arms in a welcoming gesture, as if he were inviting her into a game.
“I’m Xander ,” he declared, his voice smooth and playful. “Eryx’s brother. Now, let’s see what we can do here…”
Lydia’s heart raced, confusion swirling within her. Though he looked similar to Eryx, an unsettling aura surrounded Xander , sending warning bells ringing in her mind. She could sense his bad intentions lurking just beneath the surface.
“Open the door and let me out!” she screamed, her voice echoing in the cave’s confines. “I don’t care who you are, and I have nothing to do with you!”
Xander expression shifted, his voice softening in a way that only heightened her anxiety. “Look, Lydia, all I need is one night for the pairing, and you’re free to go. I won’t hurt you.”
She narrowed her eyes, disbelief coloring her tone. “What are you saying? Of course not! Not even if you asked nicely.”
Before she could react, Xander moved beside her with blinding speed, grabbing her arm tightly. His gaze turned serious, the playful demeanor vanishing as a darker energy surrounded him. “You might as well do what I’m asking nicely,” he hissed through clenched teeth, his grip like iron.
Panic surged within Lydia, but before she could respond, a mysterious red-haired girl suddenly burst into the cave, her eyes filled with anger and jealousy. “Why are you being so nice to her?” she shouted, her voice cutting through the tension. “Just get it done, Xander !”
Lydia felt a mix of fear and confusion as she processed the chaotic scene. Who was this girl, and what role did she play in Xander's plans? The cave, once captivating and beautiful, now felt like a trap, each heartbeat echoing the danger closing in around her.
Xander's attention shifted to the girl, irritation flickering across his features. “This isn’t your concern, Kate. I’m handling it.”
Kate stepped forward, defiance radiating from her. “You’ve never been too soft, Xander. If you want her, you should take her. Don’t waste time playing games.”
“Games?” Lydia interrupted, finding her voice amidst the turmoil. “You think this is a game? Let me out of here, or I swear—”
Xander turned back to her, his expression unreadable. “You don’t understand, Lydia. There are forces at play that you can’t begin to comprehend. One night is all I’m asking for.”
Kate sneered, crossing her arms. “If you want her, just take her. Why wait?”
As the tension thickened in the cave, Lydia’s mind raced. She couldn’t let them control her; she had to find a way out before it was too late.
Lydia clenched her fists, trying to silence the unease gnawing at her. “You’ll never control me.”
Beside Xander, Kate’s presence simmered with barely contained jealousy. She had followed him for so long, watched him lay his eyes on others, but this time, it was different. His obsession with Lydia infuriated her. “Xander,” she said through gritted teeth, her voice taut with suppressed rage, “we don’t need her.”
But Xander didn’t acknowledge her, his focus unwavering on Lydia. “I’m not here to control you,” he said softly, almost tenderly. “You’ll see it soon enough. The pairing of our powers is inevitable.”
Kate’s patience snapped. Her jealousy surged, fueling her abilities. Without moving a muscle, she summoned her object control powers. A loose rock, hidden among the debris of the cave floor, lifted silently into the air behind Lydia, controlled by Kate’s furious will.
With a single, decisive thought, Kate hurled the rock toward Lydia, her mind consumed by rage. The stone flew through the air and struck Lydia sharply at the back of her head, the impact sending her stumbling forward in shock.
Lydia gasped, pain shooting through her skull as her vision blurred. The force of the blow knocked her off balance, and she swayed, fighting to stay conscious.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Xander shouted, turning to Kate, his voice crackling with anger. “You’ve crossed a line.”
Suddenly, the cave began to tremble, but it wasn’t the result of any structural collapse. The very walls seemed to hum with energy, reacting to Xander’s unleashed magic. His fury and immense power surged through the air, pressing down on the space around them like a suffocating wave. The cave shuddered in response to the raw energy he emanated, as if it, too, feared his presence.
Lydia’s legs gave way, and she crumpled to the ground. The overwhelming magic in the air was too much. The cave trembled beneath her, reacting to Xander’s powers as the dark energy pulsed around her. Her consciousness began to slip away, darkness closing in from the corners of her vision.
Xander stood over her, his eyes blazing. “We’ll meet again, Lydia,” he said, his voice low and ominous, his words barely audible through the trembling air. A faint chuckle escaped his lips, cruel and dismissive, as Lydia’s vision began to fade.
Her body grew heavier with each passing second, the ground beneath her trembling from the magic saturating the air.
Xander’s voice echoed in the distance as her consciousness slipped away entirely. The last thing Lydia heard before darkness overtook her was the sound of Xander’s chilling laugh, and the steady hum of the cave’s response to his power.
