The courtyard shimmered in the bright daylight, yet tension gripped the air like a tightening noose. Eryx and Lydia sat near the flickering flame, their thoughts heavy with unspoken concerns. The fire in the ornate goblet danced uncertainly, casting wavering shadows, as if sensing the impending storm.

Eryx stiffened suddenly, his fire force sparking in his palms. "He's here."

Before Lydia could respond, a biting wave of cold air swept across the courtyard, smothering the flame. Shadows stretched ominously along the palace walls as a tall figure emerged from the far end. Xander. His presence commanded attention.. regal, cold, and dangerous.

Eryx rose to his feet, flames flickering at his sides, his voice low and brimming with restrained fury. "Xander."

Lydia stood beside him, her heart pounding as she felt the growing intensity between the brothers. But something else caught her eye.. a flash of red from the shadows. Kate. The red-headed woman stepped forward, her crystal armor gleaming in the dimming sunlight. She stood confidently beside Xander, a loyal sentinel.

Kate's eyes flickered briefly toward Lydia, a smug smirk curling on her lips. It was a look Lydia recognized all too well. The memory of their clash surged to the surface.. Kate had knocked Lydia out cold during an earlier battle, and though Lydia had since recovered, the resentment between them remained sharp.

Xander moved closer, the temperature dropping further as frost crept across the stone beneath his boots. His icy blue eyes locked on Eryx, though his gaze flickered toward Lydia momentarily, hinting at deeper intentions. "Eryx," Xander greeted, his voice smooth as ice. "Still clinging to the fire our mother gave you?"

Eryx's fists clenched. "What do you want?"

Xander took his time, his eyes flicking between Eryx and Lydia before he spoke. "I've come for what's rightfully mine. The throne. The kingdom. And everything tied to it."

Before Eryx could retort, Kate stepped forward, her red hair catching the light. "And you should know by now, Eryx, Xander always gets what he wants." Her tone was dripping with confidence, but there was something else behind her words.. an unspoken devotion to Xander that lingered in every glance she cast his way.

Lydia narrowed her eyes at Kate, her memory of the blow from their past meetings still raw. She could feel Kate's possessive energy toward Xander, though it was painfully clear that Xander himself barely acknowledged her. It was a cruel irony.. Kate's loyalty and love went unnoticed by the man she followed so faithfully.

Eryx growled, flames sparking more fiercely in his hands. "You won't take her, Xander."

Xander's expression remained calm, though his gaze slid toward Lydia, his intentions clear. "Oh, but that's where you're wrong, brother." His voice dropped, the temperature plummeting as frost began to creep toward Eryx's boots. "You don't understand her value. Her power goes beyond your petty rivalry. With her by my side, I could achieve something no king has ever dreamed of.. immortality."

Lydia felt her heart skip a beat as Xander's words hung in the air. She now knows that her force is unique, but the idea of immortality? Xander's ambitions ran far deeper than she'd realized.

"And what would you do with this immortality, Xander?" Lydia challenged, stepping forward despite the cold seeping into her bones. "Rule an empty, frozen kingdom alone?"

Kate's eyes flared at Lydia's defiance, but Xander's cold, calculating smile didn't waver. "Not alone, Lydia. I would have you by my side, where you belong..you won't be harmed you have my words "

Eryx's fire surged. "Over my dead body."

Xander finally shifted his gaze fully onto his brother, his eyes narrowing. "That can be arranged."

The tension was thick, ready to explode at any moment, but before it could, a familiar voice cut through the courtyard.

"Sera."

The voice was quiet but firm, and Sera appeared from the far end of the courtyard. Her crystal armor gleamed with a soft glow, and she walked with a purpose. The atmosphere around her seemed to stabilize, her very presence balancing the heated fire of Eryx and the icy cold of Xander.

But something shifted in the air as Kate's eyes moved to Sera. There was no warmth in her gaze. Instead, there was a flicker of rivalry.. a long-brewing tension between the two women. Kate had been by Xander's side longer than anyone, but Sera... Sera had a way of standing between them without even trying.

Xander's cold smile faltered, but only for a second. "You're late," he said, his tone softening slightly, though the cold edge remained.

Sera glanced briefly at him before addressing the group. "This isn't the time for your power plays, Xander," she said, her voice calm but unyielding. "There's a greater threat beyond these walls."

Xander's eyes flickered with a mix of frustration and something unspoken, but before he could respond, Kate stepped forward again. "You should listen to him, Sera. Xander sees the future of the kingdom, the legacy. Your role, like everyone's, is to follow."

Sera's gaze hardened, her stance unwavering. "I don't follow blindly, Kate."

The unspoken tension between them seemed to freeze the air. Kate's lips twitched, but she remained silent. She glanced toward Xander, her gaze filled with something that bordered on longing, though Xander barely gave her a second glance.

Lydia watched the dynamic unfold, the pieces falling into place. Kate was fiercely loyal to Xander, so much so that she was willing to ignore his disregard for her. She had loved him, perhaps still did, despite knowing that his ambitions left little room for anything else. But that love also made her dangerous, a threat in her own right.

Eryx's flames flared once more, cutting through the tense silence. "You think you can manipulate her like you've manipulated everyone else?" he snarled, stepping closer to his brother. "You won't have Lydia, and you sure as hell won't take this kingdom."

Xander's ice force responded, swirling around him with a deadly calm. "You're still clinging to the past, Eryx. But I see the future. And in that future, Lydia stands with me, not you."

Kate's eyes gleamed as Xander spoke, her expression filled with a dangerous mix of devotion and jealousy. She wanted nothing more than to stand by his side, but she knew, deep down, that Xander's sights were set on Lydia.. not her.

Before the tension could explode into full conflict, Sera's crystal force flared, radiating outward and neutralizing the clashing energies. "Enough!" she commanded, her voice ringing with authority. "This isn't the time for your petty rivalries."

Xander's eyes lingered on Lydia for a moment longer, a storm of emotion swirling beneath his calm facade. Then, without another word, he turned and walked away, frost creeping across the stones as he disappeared into the shadows, Kate silently following close behind.

As the courtyard finally returned to its natural temperature, Eryx let out a slow breath, though his heart still raced. He turned to Lydia, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you alright?"

Lydia nodded, but her mind was still spinning. Xander's words about immortality lingered, and the complicated feelings between them all seemed to grow even more tangled. She looked toward the path where Xander and Kate had disappeared, her heart heavy with the weight of what was to come.

Sera, watching the brothers' retreating figure, sighed. "This isn't over," she murmured.

No, Lydia thought. It was only just beginning.
