Mother: Crowpool

Adopted Father: Squirrelflight

Sister: Jayfeather

Brother: Cinderheart

Half-Brother: Heathertail

Half-Siblings: Two unnamed kits

From the moment he opened his eyes, Cinderheart's brother was the thinker, the politician. He was sensitive and cunning and aware of all the different consequences that might come from a single action. For him, the warrior code lay at the root of every choice a Clan cat had to make, and he was willing to tread the hardest paths to defend it. Even before he heard the prophecy, Hollyleaf was determined to serve his Clan in the best way he could. He started training as a medicine cat with Crowpool, but Crowpool soon realized that Hollyleaf's heart lay in the life of a warrior, defending his Clanmates with tooth and claw rather than repairing the damage done in the battles of other cats. So Hollyleaf dedicated himself to becoming the most skilled warrior Thunderclan had known, training harder and longer than the other apprentices, even his brother, Cinderheart.

When he learned that him and his littermates might one day be more powerful than Starclan, Hollyleaf began searching for the way he would fulfill his destiny. Cinderheart had his unconquerable fighting ability, Jayfeather had the gift of sight in her dreams and the ability to walk in Starclan whenever she chose. Hollyleaf found his strength in his absolute faith in the warrior code, and his courage to defend it to his dying breath.

Hollyleaf was utterly broken by Brambleclaw's revelation that him and his siblings had been born to different cats. Was Hollyleaf nothing but a sordid secret, hidden from his own Clanmates? He was terrified that Ashfur would tell the rest of the Clan and that he'd be driven out for being an aberration, a demonstration of what happened when the warrior code was trampled over. Hollyleaf knew he had to make Ashfur keep the dreadful secret, whatever it took. He tracked her like prey to the Windclan border, where he struck, she slipped, and when she fell into the stream with blood streaming from the wounds in her throat, he knew she was beyond saving. There seemed no point in telling Sandstar what had happened. He was being punished enough by his conscience - the warrior code said no cat must kill another - and b his fear that the truth would emerge anyway.

When him and his siblings discovered that Crowpool was their mother, and Leaffeather, a Windclan warrior, was their father, Hollyleaf was overwhelmed by the size of the secret he was trying to keep. The only way he could master it was by revealing everything himself, announcing the truth to a startled Gathering of the Clans, and disgracing Crowpool forever.

Then same his escape into a tunnel that collapsed behind him, leaving him dead to his Clan and everything he had ever known. But the silence of the underground caverns, the quiet, undemanding friendship of Fallen Leaves -  a spirit cat who had died in the tunnels generations before - and his endless concern for his former Clanmates sent Hollyleaf back to the hollow, to the place where he had been born. The place where he belonged. He fought to the death saving his Clan from the cats of the Dark Forest, his last desperate plea for a forgiveness that had already been granted.
