Vynra City, once a small village near the Lira Kingdom's border, now thrives despite its proximity to one of the most dangerous areas in the world-the Silent Forest. Known for its wild, dangerous beasts, the forest poses a constant threat. Fortunately, Vynra's location on higher ground provides some safety, as the beasts must take a longer route to access the city. Guard stations line the perimeter, particularly near the forest, while access to the main road requires navigating a mountain pass. Due to these challenges, farming and livestock are crucial for survival, and merchants used to visit only once every two months. However, since the guild was established seven years ago, trade has increased, with merchants now arriving twice a month. The guild's presence has been instrumental in Vynra's slow but steady transformation into a prosperous city.

"Huh, hard to believe this place used to be a small village," Alex mused as he wandered through the bustling marketplace, taking in the sights of vendors and their wares. He had read about the city's history the night before in one of Reggy's old books.

As he strolled, lost in thought, Alex accidentally collided with someone rushing in the opposite direction. They both tumbled to the ground.

"I'm so sorry, mister! I'm late for my station!" the girl exclaimed, scrambling to her feet in a panic.

"No worries, it's fine," Alex said, brushing himself off as he stood.

"Thank you so much! If you need anything, find me at the south gate! That's where I'll be posted. Sorry again, gotta run!" she shouted as she dashed off, leaving Alex blinking in surprise.

"Be careful not to-" Alex started but stopped, chuckling to himself. "She's already gone. I hope she doesn't bump into anyone else. Never seen her before... is she new? Hmm, south gate, huh? Maybe I'll ask later," he thought, continuing his walk.

At the south gate...

"I'm really sorry for being late! I went to the wrong entrance. I thought it was the south gate, but it wasn't! I promise this won't happen again," the girl explained, bowing apologetically.

Rena chuckled. "Don't worry about it. As long as you've learned from your mistake, it's fine."

"Thank you so much! I won't let it happen again, I swear!" the girl said, relieved.

Rena smiled. "By the way, I'm Rena. I'll be your partner here at the gate."

The girl perked up. "I'm Claire Albert, but everyone calls me Clay. Nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you, Clay," Rena replied, shaking her hand. "Ready for your first day?"

"I'll do my best!" Clay said enthusiastically.

As they began their shift, Clay stood at attention, scanning the perimeter with a focused intensity that caught Rena's eye.

"Clay, what are you doing?" Rena asked, smiling in amusement.

"Oh! I'm just keeping a close watch on the area. I've heard a lot about the dangers around here," Clay replied nervously.

"It's great that you're so eager, but try not to overdo it. You might scare the villagers," Rena advised with a chuckle.

Clay blushed. "Oh no! I didn't realize. I've just heard that this place is dangerous, so I wanted to be extra vigilant... heh."

"I understand, but no need to stress yourself out. Relax a little," Rena reassured her, laughing. "We still need to stay alert, but acting too tense could make people question your confidence as a guard. Just be calm and stay focused."

"Got it! Thanks for the advice," Clay replied, smiling sheepishly.

"Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it," Rena said with a nod, as the two settled into their watch over the south gate.
