The cafeteria was buzzing with laughter and chatter as students gathered for their lunch break. Abhira sat at a table by the window, taking slow bites of her sandwich, AARRC plopped down beside her, almost invading her space. Without asking, they began picking at Abhira's plate, taking bites of her food as if it belonged to her.
Abhira felt a rush of annoyance, but she kept her composure. As soon as they took another bite, Abhira stood up, ready to leave. Just as she turned, Roohi, shoved her from behind. Abhira stumbled forward, losing her balance and tumbling heavily to the floor.
Laughter erupted around her, a chorus of mocking voices, but Abhira said nothing. She simply got up and walked away, determined not to give them the satisfaction of seeing her hurt.
Later, in the restroom, she found herself cornered again. Inside, Roohi and charu threw eggs at her, laughing as they cracked all over her clothes. Abhira felt the yolk sliding down her skin, but again she remained silent, brushing aside the humiliation. The campus had become her battleground, and she was wearing her armor of silence.
In class, they escalated their antics. This time, they put a cockroach on her desk, its tiny legs fluttering across her books. The whispers and giggles were relentless, but Abhira stoicism only stoked their motivation. AARRC began to wonder why their harassment wasn't provoking a breakout reaction; after all, their power lay in the fear they instilled in others.
Days passed, and though their antics towards Abhira continued-now featuring clever tricks to embarrass and intimidate her-she became a paradox of resilience and resolve. Each provocation fed her determination to no longer be a mere casualty in their game.
Tanvi was worried about Abhira. Their friendship had been a comforting anchor in a sea of laughter and chaos, but lately, it seemed like Abhira was a lone ship, bravely braving a storm. Sitting across , Tanvi leaned in, lowering her voice as if afraid that AARRC would overhear.
"Why don't you fight back against them?" she asked, her brow furrowed with concern.
Abhira took a sip of her water, contemplating Tanvi's question. Memories of Aunt Manisha's words flooded her mind-wisps of advice about the importance of maintaining one's dignity and composure, of not letting the shadows of others dull her inner light.
"My aunty made me promise that I wouldn't get involved with them," Abhira replied softly, her gaze drifting toward the busy cafeteria, watching AARRC hover around a nearby table like wolves eyeing a lone deer.
"But Abhira," Tanvi continued, "they're being horrible to you! What if they take it too far?"
Abhira sighed heavily, feeling the tension mount in the air. "I know. But I can't let them win. If I react, it'll only fuel them more. I'd rather be strong in the face of their cruelty."
Across the room, Charu's ears perked up. Eavesdropping wasn't a new practice for her and Roohi;
"Let's give her a little reminder then," she whispered to Roohi, her voice dripping with malice. "We need to put her in her place. How about a little surprise after college?"
Just like that, Charu set the gears in motion.
just before college closed, Abhira received a call from a tanvi. "Abhira, can you please come to the storeroom? I think I'm stuck," Abhira to head to the storeroom.
The moment she stepped inside, someone grabbed her bag and phone, and before she could react, they pushed her inside and locked the door. Panic surged within her, but as she looked around, she realized she couldn't see their faces. "Let me out!" she shouted, banging on the door, but her voice echoed emptily in the dim room. No one was around to hear her .
Meanwhile, outside, Roohi messaged kiara from Abhira phones "I'll be late. Went to a restaurant with friends." Thus, kiara unwittingly sealed Abhira's fate, thinking nothing was wrong. Roohi told the guard check on Abhira in an hour, but the hour passed, and the guard had completely forgotten about her.
When the clock struck 7:00, Armaan, calls guard and asked him about Abhira, The guard was sheepish as he admitted, "I forgot." Realizing the gravity of the situation, Armaan rushed to college, his heart racing.
When they finally unlocked the storeroom, Abhira lay fainted on the floor. Panic surged through Armaan as he called her name, but there was no response. They hurriedly took her to the hospital, where doctors assessed her condition.
Finally, the doctor stepped out, his demeanor calm. "She's stable now, but she fainted due to stress and lack of oxygen."
Relief washed over Armaan, but as they left the hospital, he urged the guard in a low tone, "Don't mention my involvement in rescuing her."And then he left the hospital
However, the guard, in his haste, had already informed Kiara, who arrived at the hospital with worry etched across her face. "How did this happen?" Her voice was sharp, filled with concern as she confronted the guard.
"I... I forgot to check storeroom," the guard admitted, looking guilty.
When Kiara stepped into Abhira's room, she found her pale but breathing, her spirit far from broken. "What happened?" she asked, searching Abhira's eyes for answers.
Abhira hesitated but ultimately decided to keep the truth to herself, not wanting to worry them further. Instead, she managed a weak smile. I'm okay now."
Manisha arrived shortly after, and the two girls exchanged nervous glances, covering for each other. "Just a small accident. I'm okay now," Abhira reassured them with a weak smile.
Later, as they back their home,Kiara finally said, her tone grave. "I told you not to get involved with them. Look what they've done now!"
But Abhira lay awake on her bed, a storm of thoughts swirling in her mind."I stood up to Armaan, didn't I? That was my victory," she thought.
"Are you crazy?" Kiara exclaimed, grabbing Abhira's arm. "What were you thinking?"
Abhira replied, her voice steady as she caught her breath. "I won't let them bully me anymore. Not me. Not anyone."
Kiara's expression softened but remained concerned. "Just promise me you'll be careful. They're dangerous, Abhira."
"I promise to be careful," Abhira asserted, determination igniting within her. "But I refuse to back down. This isn't over yet."
With her heart heavy, she drifted off into a restless sleep,
