The next morning, with a mixture of eagerness and trepidation, Armaan got ready and made his way to Abhira’s house. The door swung open, revealing Manisha aunty, her eyes widening in surprise.
“Namaste aunty,” Armaan greeted with a smile.
“Namaste, beta,” she replied, still shocked.
Armaan said. “ I’m here to ....”
Manisha interrupted “Abhira told me her friend would be coming over for the project.”
Armaan nodded."yes".
“Oh, so you’re her friend? What kind of friend are you?” Manisha’s inquiry was straightforward, tinged with maternal interest.
Armaan hesitated, caught off guard. How was he supposed to define their complicated situationship? Before he could find the right words, Abhira emerged from the hallway.
“Mami, we’re just project partners! He’s my senior, you can say that’s it,” Abhira interrupted, her tone light yet firm.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Armaan’s face. There was so much more he wanted to say.
“Oh, okay, okay. Just asking normally!” Manisha said, a knowing smile accompanying her words. “You two go ahead to your room; I’ll bring some snacks.”
Abhira nodded and led Armaan into her room. They sat in an awkward silence,Abhira perched herself on the edge of her bed, and Armaan settled onto a chair, “Alright, let’s dive into the project,” she began, her eyes focused on the notes spread across the table. Armaan, however, was less interested in the papers than in the girl sitting just a few feet away. He couldn’t take his eyes off her as she passionately explained their ideas and the vision for their project .As the hours passed, the atmosphere shifted subtly—a silent understanding beginning to form.Their eyes occasionally meeting as they focused on their work.
Later in the day, Kiara, returned home. With a knowing glance, Manisha turned to her. “You know, Armaan is at our house with Abhira in her room. I can’t help but feel something.”
“Mom,” Kiara said, rolling her eyes, “don’t make it a big deal. It’s only for the project. I’ll make sure they don’t overlap after this, alright?”
“Thank you,” Manisha replied.
Curiosity piqued, Kiara walked to Abhira’s room. She paused at the threshold, surprised to see her sister sitting on the bed, absorbed in her work while Armaan sat nearby, staring intently at her with an expression that spoke volumes about his feelings.
“Why is Armaan looking at Abhira like that?” Kiara murmured, half to herself, as she stepped inside..“Guys, snack time!” Kiara announced,
“Hey, Kiara!” Abhira greeted, jolted from her concentration.
“Working hard, I see,” Kiara said, her gaze flitting between her sister and Armaan, noting how deeply absorbed they both were in their task.
After a lively break, they returned to work, sharing ideas, scribbling notes, and going back and forth on their project.
The sun began to set, casting warm hues across the sky, as Manisha called them for dinner. “Come on, let’s eat! Armaan, you should join us,” she said, beaming warmly.
“No, aunty, I think I should leave now,” Armaan said, a hint of reluctance in his voice.
“Stay!” Kiara insisted. “Let’s have dinner together!”
Armaan hesitated, glancing at Abhira, who raised an eyebrow playfully. “If everyone is so insistent, why don’t you stay? Why are you always so stubborn?”
“Excuse me, you’re calling me stubborn?” Armaan chuckled, the tension easing slightly.
Kiara and Manisha exchanged amused glances, barely containing their laughter at the playful banter. “You two are cracking me up!” Kiara said, shaking her head.
he accidentally brushed his hand against Abhira's. A shiver ran through them both, and they locked eyes, a moment suspended in time, filled with unspoken words.
“Guys, if you’re done, let’s go downstairs,” Kiara prompted, sensing the charged atmosphere.
Shaking off the moment, Armaan followed Abhira and Kiara downstairs, but his heart lingered in that split second of connection.
As they finished dinner, Armaan’s gaze kept drifting toward Abhira. Kiara couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was happening between them, something that transcended mere friendship.
After saying goodbye to Manisha and Kiara, Armaan stepped out into the cool night air, his thoughts swirling. He couldn’t deny the pull he felt towards Abhira, a force that made everything feel intensely different.
“I feel he is a nice boy,” Manisha mused, and Abhira’s heart suddenly quickened.
Kiara’s voice carried a note of irritation. “Mom, please! I told you everything about him, so how can you say that? You barely know him.”
Abhira’s heart sank. She had spoken to Kiara, but not about the project with Armaan. She felt a mix of annoyance and worry. Did Kiara suspect that there was more between her and Armaan than just a class project?
Without saying a word, Abhira quietly slipped out of her room,
“I’m sure he has a crush on her or something.”Kiara murmured ,“Kiara, calm down. It’s just an observation,”
As he walked home, he contemplated the future. Was it possible that their project could lead to something more meaningful? Only time would tell, but for now, he was more than eager to explore where this unexpected journey might take them.
