The night felt heavier , Abhira lay in her bed, drenched in sweat, an unrelenting fever consuming her. Every breath felt laborious, yet she tried to reassure her aunt, Manisha, who knelt beside her, eyes clouded with concern.Manisha mami had tried everything-cool rags, herbal teas-but nothing seemed to soothe her .
"Mami, I'm okay," Abhira insisted weakly, her voice barely a whisper.
"No, you're not. Get up. We have to take you to the hospital," Manisha insisted, her tone brooking no argument.
"Okay, I'll go with Kiara, but you don't have to come," Abhira pleaded, hoping to relieve her aunt's anxiety.
"Okay, Kiara, take her to the hospital," Manisha acquiesced. Kiara quickly sprang into action, urging her to sit up and assist her.
As the night wrapped its cold arms around them, Kiara led Abhira to the familiar stark white walls of the hospital-walls that had witnessed Abhira's fainting in the college storeroom, and then Armaan take her to hospital .
Once inside, the doctor swiftly assessed Abhira's condition, prescribing medicine with a reassuring nod. But then, his words took an unexpected turn, evoking memories buried deep. "Hey, today your boyfriend isn't here?"Dr. Mehta remarked casually, looking up.
Abhira froze, taking a moment to process the doctor's words. "I'm sorry?"
"Who is-" Kiara began, but before she could finish, the doctor continued.
"That day, he was so worried about you. He told me, 'Doctor, please do anything, but make sure she's okay.'"
Abhira and Kiara exchanged startled glances. "You mean the guy who brought me here?"
Abhira ventured, confusion permeating her voice."Exactly. Armaan. Good man," Dr. Mehta smiled before exiting, leaving the girls in stunned silence.
In an instant, Abhira was on the verge of clarifying that Armaan was not her boyfriend, but Kiara placed a hand on her arm, silencing her. "Thank you, Doctor," Kiara responded, managing a polite smile despite the dawning realization.
"Welcome. Next time, come with him," the doctor added, oblivious to the turmoil brewing in the room
As they stepped out of the hospital,On their way home, the atmosphere was charged with unspoken words. "So, that means Armaan rescued you that day," Kiara finally broke the ice, a knowing look in her eyes.
"But then why did the guard uncle lie to us?" Abhira asked, her mind racing to piece together the puzzle.
"Maybe Armaan told him to keep it a secret," Kiara suggested, glancing sideways at her .
Abhira's heart raced at the thought. She needed to set the record straight. "Kiara, I want to tell you something. Armaan isn't involved in that fresher's party prank."
"What are you talking about?" Kiara's brow furrowed deeper.
"And he beat up that professor because he was trying to molest someone," Abhira continued, her voice getting stronger.
"What?!" Kiara gasped.
"There's more. After that, I apologized to him for thinking he was involved, and he actually forgave me," Abhira admitted, her heart heavy with the memory.
"And then he saved me from those goons yesterday."
"No, no, no. It's not that simple," Kiara interrupted,
