The lights of the Parisian basketball stadium glimmered as thousands of fans gathered to witness the international match. The buzz in the air was electric, and the cheers for Kim Minji, captain of the South Korean team, echoed throughout the arena. Known for his sharp tactics and unmatched skills, Minji was more than just a player—he was a leader. The opposing team eyed him warily, knowing they were up against one of the best.In the stands, the Kim and Pham families sat together, eager to support their children. Hanni, the eldest daughter of the Phams, watched Minji from her seat, oblivious to the fact that the young man she saw as a little brother held deep, unspoken feelings for her. Next to her, Danielle, Minji’s best friend, cheered loudly, while Haerin, Minji’s older sister, beamed with pride.
The match began, and the opposing team quickly took the lead in the first round. Minji, ever the strategist, let them have their moment. He carefully observed their moves, taking mental notes of their weaknesses and techniques. When the second round began, Minji put his plan into action. He rallied his team, leading them with precision and determination. Every move was calculated, every pass deliberate, and soon, they closed the gap.
As the final round approached, tension filled the stadium. The opposing team, realizing Minji was the biggest threat, focused all their efforts on him. They surrounded him, determined to prevent him from scoring. But Minji was a force of nature. Using his agility and technical prowess, he broke through their defense, and with one final leap, he soared towards the basket. The crowd held its breath as the ball sailed through the air and, with a satisfying swish, landed in the net.
The buzzer rang. Minji’s team had won.
The stadium erupted in cheers, fans chanting Minji’s name as his teammates hoisted him in the air. But the celebration was cut short. In the heat of the moment, one of the opposing players, frustrated by their loss, shoved Minji from behind. He lost his balance, crashing hard onto the court. His head struck the edge of the court with a sickening thud.
A hush fell over the crowd.
Minji’s vision blurred, but he quickly stood, brushing off the concerned hands of his parents and teammates. “I’m fine,” he insisted, forcing a smile. But deep inside, his head throbbed painfully. He hid it well, not wanting to worry anyone.
Later that evening, the Kim and Pham families headed to the beach house they had rented for a brief getaway after the match. Minji tried to enjoy the moment, but the pain in his head only worsened. He felt unsteady, as if the world around him was slowly spinning out of control. Still, he kept silent, unwilling to spoil the trip.
After dinner, Minji and Dani took a walk along the beach. The moonlight danced on the waves, and Dani couldn’t resist teasing Minji about how he had been staring at Hanni during the meal. “You were so obvious,” she laughed.
Minji fired back, “And you weren’t? I saw you staring at Haerin the entire time.”
They laughed, their friendly banter masking the deeper emotions beneath the surface. But their laughter was cut short when they noticed someone struggling in the water.
“Is that… Hanni?” Dani’s voice was filled with panic.
Without hesitation, Minji sprinted towards the ocean, his heart racing. Hanni was being pulled under by the current, her body thrashing as she struggled to stay afloat. “Call our parents!” Minji shouted to Dani before diving into the water.
The cold water hit him like a shock, but Minji’s focus was solely on Hanni. He swam with everything he had, but his head was pounding, his vision fading. Every stroke felt like a battle against his own body, but he couldn’t give up. Hanni needed him.
