University Cafeteria - Lunchtime
The university cafeteria hummed with energy, the aroma of various cuisines mingling in the air as students crowded around tables, sharing stories and laughter. Jisoo and her basketball team had claimed a large round table, their voices overlapping in excitement as they celebrated their recent victory on the court.
“Did you see that three-pointer I made?” Lisa boasted, her grin wide as she recounted the moment. “I swear, I felt like I was flying!”
The others chimed in, recounting their favourite plays from the match, their enthusiasm infectious. Jisoo, still feeling the rush from the game, smiled as she listened to her friends relive the highlights.
Amid the chatter, Lee Ho-jung turned to Lisa with a curious look. “Lisa, you never mentioned your cousin. She seems your age. Why isn’t she studying?”
Lisa shifted slightly, her gaze flickering away as she considered her response. “Why would I mention her? We don’t really get along. She’s helping her dad, that’s why she’s not in school.” Her tone was clipped, signalling an end to the topic.
Jisoo exchanged a glance with Rosé, sensing there was more to the story than Lisa was letting on, but neither pushed for more.
Jeongyeon, the team’s joker, couldn’t resist stirring the pot. “Now that you mention it, I’ve heard some not-so-good rumours about Jennie,” she said, leaning in with a conspiratorial smile.
The mention of Jennie made Jisoo’s heart skip a beat. Jennie had been on her mind since the game, her captivating smile and confident presence lingering in Jisoo’s thoughts.
Lisa, unfazed, waved a dismissive hand. “Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably true. It’s not just rumours.” There was a sharp edge to her words that made Jisoo uneasy.
“What kind of rumours?” Rosé asked, intrigued. “She seems pretty successful for someone her age.”
Lisa’s expression hardened, and she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. “Successful? She’s a nightmare. A real piece of work who doesn’t respect anyone. She does whatever she wants and sleeps with every handsome guy she can find.”
The accusation hit Jisoo like a cold wave. The admiration she had felt for Jennie wavered under Lisa’s harsh words. Could Jennie really be like that?
“What do you mean?” Jisoo asked cautiously. “You said you don’t get along, but you don’t know her that well, right?”
Lisa shot Jisoo a cold look. “Believe me, I know more than you think. You might want to keep your distance.”
Feeling the conversation growing tense, Jisoo changed the subject. “So, about that party tonight—are we all going?”
As the group moved on to lighter topics, Jisoo couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Jennie than Lisa’s words suggested. She glanced at Lisa, who seemed indifferent now, but a knot of unease tightened in Jisoo’s stomach.

Jennie’s Office
Jennie sat in her sleek, modern office, the air around her charged with the usual buzz of phone calls and paperwork. Despite the hustle, her mind kept drifting, thoughts of Jisoo intruding no matter how hard she tried to focus.
What is it about her that has me so captivated? Jennie wondered, a wave of frustration washing over her. She stared out the window at the city skyline, her reflection clear against the backdrop of towering buildings. Everyone adores her; she’s the star, the one everyone wants to be around.
