Y/N stood ready, facing the dark figure that had lurked behind every recent tragedy, every shadow cast over the realms. The air crackled with tension as the mysterious figure held her gaze, their veiled face slowly coming into view. And then, with a flare of energy, the shadows dissipated, revealing a face from the distant past.

The figure’s eyes blazed with a fierce, old resentment. She was one of the ancient Guardians, one Y/N had once fought alongside in the time before Heaven, Hell, and Earth were fully shaped. This was a guardian Y/N hadn’t seen for eons: Selene, the Guardian of Twilight.

Selene’s voice broke the silence, dripping with bitter fury. “So, you don’t remember me, Y/N? Or maybe you never cared enough to notice my existence.”

Y/N’s eyes widened. Memories flashed through her mind — Selene had been a guardian of twilight, neither fully of the light nor of the dark, but never meant to cross the boundaries. She and Y/N had been equals once, or so Y/N thought. But she hadn’t realized the extent of Selene’s feelings… until now.

“Selene…” Y/N’s voice softened. “Why are you doing this?”

“Why?” Selene’s voice was edged with anger and anguish. “You, Y/N — you were always the chosen one. The ‘Mighty Guardian,’ with powers to balance the very fabric of light and darkness, while the rest of us were reduced to mere shadows of your greatness. I stood by, loyal and unseen, while you carried all the glory, all the praise from God and the higher realms.”

Y/N’s heart ached as she listened. She hadn’t known. The jealousy, the resentment, all of it had brewed within Selene for countless ages. But even more heartbreaking was the realization that this once-trusted ally had been pushed into darkness by feelings of inferiority and neglect.

Selene sneered, recalling her past bitterness. “I tried to accept my place, but every time I was around you, it was like I was nothing. I thought I could ignore it… until I saw you in your full power, balancing Heaven and Hell, while I remained bound to twilight, forever in between. So I waited. I bided my time and sought out the Shadowed One, knowing it would be the weapon I’d need to dethrone you and prove my worth.”

Y/N’s memories flashed back to the times they fought together, and to the last time she’d seen Selene, when she’d left to secure the darker realms. But Y/N hadn’t seen what had been festering in her heart.

“Selene, you were never nothing. You had a purpose, a strength that balanced the twilight. I never thought I was above you,” Y/N said, stepping forward. “But what you’re doing now—endangering Heaven, Hell, and Earth—none of this will make you whole.”

“Don’t you dare pretend to understand!” Selene shouted, her eyes brimming with tears of anger. “For eons, I watched as you were praised, honored, revered. I was nothing but your shadow. But now… now, everyone will know my name.”

In a surge of dark energy, Selene lashed out, forcing Y/N back. The two clashed, their powers illuminating the skies in bursts of light and darkness. Selene’s attacks were fueled by years of pent-up rage, her determination blazing. But Y/N’s strength was tempered by balance and compassion, her power radiating with her purpose to protect, not to conquer.

As the battle wore on, Selene began to falter. Y/N took a deep breath, drawing on her Guardian powers, and finally managed to subdue her. In that moment, the dark energy surrounding Selene dissipated, leaving her weakened and vulnerable.

Selene looked up at Y/N, her face etched with pain and exhaustion. “Why… why couldn’t it have been me?” she whispered, broken.

Y/N knelt down beside her, her gaze soft. “You were never less than me, Selene. We each had a place. You just lost sight of yours.”

The scene blurred, shifting into a series of shared memories. Y/N and Selene, standing side by side in the early days of creation, both filled with purpose. Battles fought together, victories won, losses shared. A flash of the last time they spoke as friends, before the resentment and jealousy had clouded Selene’s heart.

Finally, Selene closed her eyes, letting out a shaky sigh. “I see it now… but it’s too late for me, isn’t it?”

Y/N gently placed a hand on Selene’s shoulder. “It’s never too late. But this darkness… it has to end.”

As Y/N helped her rise, Selene nodded in silent understanding. They had reached a new beginning — a chance for healing, a chance to restore the balance Selene had so desperately wanted to destroy. Together, they would work to repair what had been broken, and face whatever challenges lay ahead.
