The light peered into my eyelids. I tried to open my eyes.
The brightness was too much for me to adjust. The first thing I noticed was the aching pain in my body. My muscles were sore from being put in an uncomfortable position for a long time.
I was in a staircase not even at my building.
And it was definitely the morning.Where was I?
I apparently fell asleep on someone's staircase all night. I stood up. My joints were protesting my decision. I ignored the pain.
I walked out with my hand rubbing my eyes.I looked around to look for the familiar clues. I remembered then. I was just a couple streets away from my building. I must have been very tired last night, I couldn't walk up to the street and rested in the staircase of some building and then fell asleep.
Not a smart choice, I told myself. My head started to feel the throbbing headache. I grabbed my phone from my purse. At the same time, I checked if I had lost anything. Nothing was stolen. Luck was on my side. It didn't mean I should have blacked out at a random place though.
It was almost 6am. I had to rush home. And prepare to go to work.
Another mistake was getting super drunk on the night before a work day.I got to work late. I sat at my desk, started to busy myself with the receipts piled on my table.
"Mrs Smith has asked me where you were", Ginny from the table beside informed me.
I groaned. Mrs smith was the manager and direct supervisor of us, customer services. I work at a cable internet company and I had to answer phones days and nights. Mostly stupid questions.
It was Monday morning. So the phone calls were non stop coming. I didn't have time to think about what would Mrs Smith snide comment on my lateness to work be. I could barely tolerate my headache as it was.
I went to a hotdog stand nearby and grabbed my lunch. The dried bread fell to my sore stomach harshly. Hmm, if only I could have some liquid to smooth it over. Next thing I knew, I was walking into a convinience store and paying cash for the gin bottle I had purchased.
I gulped down a few pegs in the toilet stall at work.it gave me immediate relief of the tension I was feeling. I looked at my phone. It was still 3 hours to end my shift. I hoped the alcohol in my blood would keep me from falling apart until that time, so I could go to the bar that was just around the corner of my street but haven't been to yet.
