The full moon hung like a watchful eye over the kingdom, casting its pale light across the walls of the Moonrise palace.Rosaline was inside her private quarters, deep in contemplation. The happy reunions and festivities that had surrounded her homecoming had started to fade into the past, to be replaced by an increasing sense of dread. Hunter's voice echoed in her head, and the shadow of his presence remained as though he had imprinted himself on her very soul.
She was startled out of her reverie by a gentle knock on her door. When she looked up, she saw Queen Monia, her mother, standing there with a kind yet worried look on her face.
"May I come in, my dear?" Monia's voice was gentle, soothing.
Rosaline nodded, offering a faint smile. "Please do, Mother."
Monia moved across the room and took a seat next to Rosaline. She reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from her daughter's face. "You seem troubled. This should be a time of joy, yet you look as though you're still imprisoned."
Rosaline paused, looking down at her hands. It's difficult to describe. I am physically present and free. However, I feel... haunted. It seems as though I carried a piece of Hunter with me, and it won't go away—his voice, his presence.
Monia's hand tightened around hers. "Rosaline, the scars of captivity don't vanish overnight. I know you feel Hunter's hold still lingers, but you are surrounded by those who love you, who will fight for you."
"I know," Rosaline replied, her voice barely a whisper. "But I feel like he's watching me even now, waiting for the moment to strike. I can't shake the feeling that he won't stop until he drags me back into that nightmare."
Monia's expression hardened. "Then we will stand prepared. You have the strength of the entire pack behind you, Rosaline. Hunter may be powerful, but he will not take you from us again."
There was a pause before Rosaline resumed her speech, her voice shaking under the intensity of what she had to say. "What if I'm not strong enough, Mother? What if I am powerless to stop him when he arrives?
Monia cupped her daughter's face in her hands, her gaze fierce. "You are stronger than you know, Rosaline. And when you doubt your strength, remember the strength of your family, your friends. Remember Hailey, Maddox, Marven—everyone who stands beside you."
-----
Later that evening, Rosaline made her way to the training grounds. She found Marven and Maddox in the midst of a sparring session, their movements quick and fierce, each one anticipating the other's next strike. Seeing her approach, they halted, turning to face her.
"Ah, our brave sister," Marven greeted her, wiping the sweat from his brow. "What brings you here? Not exactly the place for a princess."
"Perhaps," Rosaline replied, her tone firmer, "but I don't want to be a princess who sits idly by while others fight her battles."
Maddox's brow arched in surprise. "You want to train?"
"Yes. I may not have the strength of a warrior, but I can't let myself remain defenseless," she answered, determination in her eyes. "If Hunter does return... I want to be ready."
Marven smiled, nodding his approval. "That's the spirit. We'll start with something simple, but don't expect us to go easy on you."
"Good," Rosaline replied, a small, resolute smile forming on her lips.
As Marven instructed her through basic forms, Rosaline could feel a surge of strength returning to her. Each swing, each dodge felt like a small victory over her fear. Maddox watched her with a hint of pride, his usually stoic expression softening.
"You know, Rose," he said, "we've all missed you. We may act tough, but... it wasn't the same without you here."
Rosaline paused, looking at her brother. "I missed you all, too. There were times I thought I might never see any of you again." She drew a shaky breath. "And now, I just want to do everything I can to make sure none of us goes through that pain again."
"Then we'll train, and we'll fight," Marven replied firmly. "Hunter won't know what hit him if he dares set foot here again."
Meanwhile, in the vampire fortress...
Hunter stood before his gathered warriors, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The blood-red moon cast an ominous glow over the landscape, painting his face in shadow. His second-in-command, Marcus, approached cautiously, sensing the brooding intensity in his prince's demeanor.
"Your orders, my lord?" Marcus inquired, his voice laced with reverence.
Hunter's eyes never left the far-off mountains that delineated the boundaries of the werewolf kingdom. "We wait," he stated in a low but menacing voice. "They think they've triumphed. Let them rejoice in their fleeting triumph. And we shall attack when they least expect it.
A murmur of approval rippled through the ranks, but Marcus hesitated. "If I may, my lord, what about Rosaline? She is their princess, and you obviously value her more than just a prisoner.
Hunter's eyes flickered, his expression hardening. "Rosaline is my mate," he said, his voice barely concealing the anger beneath. "She belongs with me, and I will see to it that she returns, willing or otherwise."
Marcus nodded, casting a wary glance at his prince. "And should she resist?"
Hunter's voice dropped to a deadly whisper. "Then she will learn that I am not a man to be defied."

Hey everyone! 🌟
First, let me just say thank you for sticking with me through this long break! I know it's been a while since the last chapter, and I'm sorry for the delay. Life threw a bit of writer's block my way, and honestly, it took longer than I expected to get back in the zone. Sometimes, the ideas didn't flow the way I wanted, and I didn't want to bring anything to the story that didn't feel right for Rosaline, Hunter, and all the amazing moments I have planned for them.
You all have been so patient, and your messages, comments, and love for Veiled Souls really kept my spirits up when I needed it most. So, a huge thank you for sticking around! 💖 I'm back, feeling inspired, and can't wait to share what's next for Rosaline and Hunter with you.
Hope you enjoy the new chapter, and thank you again for being the best readers ever!
Much love,
