Chapter fifteen
Getting ice cream together was one of their favourite activities together. Who doesn't love ice cream, right?
It was one of the first things they did after the adoption got approved. When he finally got a real home. His mother took him out that day to celebrate and they made a habit out of it. It almost became a weekly thing at this point.
While sooyoung tried to give every flavour a chance, Minho stayed loyal to his strawberry ice cream or banana milkshake. He had a lot of trouble making decisions and being under stress before ordering didn't help much. It was his standard answer to save his brain from overthinking his options.
This time on the other hand, his mom insisted on getting him something more.
She's quite close to the owner and managed to make him a special sundae consisting of strawberry and vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, some fresh strawberries on top and a bunch of whipped cream. It was the largest portion he's ever seen. He felt bad for making her put all that effort into it but all those feelings of guilt disappeared when he saw her approaching with the dessert.
"Oh, gosh" His mother gasped and looked up at Jiwoo as she placed their orders down on the table. Her own order being just as big as Minho's "You didn't have to do all of this for me- I only paid for a scoop."
Jiwoo's hand lingered against his mother's while her other hand found its way to her shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.
"Shh, don't worry about it. You're celebrating, right?" She smiled down at her and back at Minho. And thank God she did or she would've noticed her embarrassingly pink cheeks.
Minho returned the smile and nodded in response while his mouth was stuffed with a mixture of ice cream and whipped cream.
She was one of the few other people in his life he truly trusted. She was radiating with positive energy and kindness. There wasn't an evil bone inside of her. And Minho could sense that. She felt safe.
They saw each other at least once a week, if not for ice cream, it was for dinner at their place.
The lady gave Sooyoung's shoulder a gentle squeeze before she walked back behind the counter to serve the other customers, though she would rather stay with the pair and close up the shop for the rest of the day.
Her eyes drifted back to her for a moment before she let out a quiet sigh and turned back to her son.
"Min?" She spoke up after a minute of silence. Not an uncomfortable one in the slightest.
"What do you think of Jiwoo?"
Minho looked up from his large bowl and tilted his head at the sudden question. "She's nice, I like her."
"Really? Are you sure?" Her smile widened as she got confirmation and quickly turned her head back to look at the other woman.
"I- Well, we, wanted to tell you something... We're sort of going out together."
