CHAPTER NINE:
I made my way towards the office to get my schedule.
"Can I help you?" Asked a gray haired woman sitting behind a rather boring desk.
"Yes ma'am I'm new today and I was told to come here for my schedule." I stated.
"Well yes that would be the purpose of the office." She said with an attitude. I swear everyone here hates me cause my skin is 20 shades darker than theirs. She sighs loudly as she hands me a single piece of paper, and I get out of there as fast as I can. I look down at the paper scanning it over.
Damn! They have me in three Advanced Placement classes and an Honors class. What the hell? Do they think I'm Einstein Junior?
I walked to my new locker scanning the numbers.. 319.. 320.. and 321. There was a girl grabbing a book from my locker. I was standing behind her as she pulled out a A.P. Government book, I looked back at my schedule. Yup! That was my first hour too.
She then shut the locker and turned towards me. Oh My God! She's black! My mouth fell open, and here I thought I was the only colored girl here within a million mile radius! She was tall, her hair was straight with carmel highlights, she was wearing a dark grey and yellowish stripped sweater along with a black skirt and the rest of the mandatory uniform.
She smiled at me.
"You must be Kerri." She stated, and I nodded.
"Well, I'm Nyema Banks. Welcome to Brook Wood Academy. I guess we'll be locker partners." She said gesturing to the locker.
"I guess so. And I think we have A.P. Government together." I said with a smile. She laughed.
"Yes, I know. I'm glad to see more colored people with brains around here."
"I agree." I retorted and we both began to laugh. I guess 'we colored' just get each other. I could already tell this was the beginning of an eventful friendship. After I put my things away me and Nyema walked to class together already talking like we've known each other our whole lives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First hour along with second, third, and lunch I had with Nyema. Walking in the cafeteria I looked around seeing all the different 'cliques' there were about 6 tables all which were huge and could seat about 20 people. Sarah of course was at the back with all the cheerleaders, and Shane was at the table over with a bunch of jocks. There was a table full of computer techs all with lap tops out. Then a table of the creepy kids who were all dressed in black uniforms. And finally three tables with the 'normal kids' I suppose.
I saw Nyema at one of those tables with about six other people who were all colored. Not even kidding no one at the table was white, I walked over with my lunch bag and sat next to her.
"Oh hi!" She chirped.
"This is everyone." She said gesturing around to the people surrounding us.
"Hi I'm Kerri." I said with a smile.
"Selest." A Mexican girl said smiling at me.
"Jarvis" Said a black boy who looked a year older than me and quite cute I might add.
"Serene." Another Mexican girl said holding her hand out for me to shake and I did.
"Tucker." A Indian boy said smiling at me. He was adorable too. I smiled back.
"Jalen." Another black boy said. Glancing up at me from his Honors Algebra book and smiling.
"Hey do you have that next?" I asked. He nodded.
