Chapter 18: Betrayal {END}

Their outfits are laid out, Scarlet's romper dress had been ironed and placed on her bed. She'd wanted pants but Evie insisted on a dress, so they settled for something in between. It doesn't have too many frills, Scarlet is overjoyed to say, and it's quite dark in color, a black with silver buttons, it has puffy lace sleeves and it stops just above mid-thigh.

Putting on the outfit, Scarlet prepares herself for what they'll have to do to get that wand. Evie, in her floor-length gown, checks in on her. "Are you ready?" With a nod, Scarlet turns around and walks to the door. "You look great!" She compliments but she's obviously nervous about today. Thanking her, Scarlet walks by her side out of the dorm room, heading the same way all the others are. Mal had already set off a well before them, being the soon-king's girlfriend. They meet up with Jay and Carlos on the way down and they all pile into the same car. The journey is fairly short, with the castle only being a few miles away, but it feels like forever for the ansty teens. The chauffeur opens the door and they climb out, walking up the stairs to enter the castle and take their places.

Once everyone quietens down, the Fairy Godmother stands up in front of them all, dressed in a long blue dress and a silver sash. She uncovers the wand causing everyone to stare in awe. Scarlet leans forward practically revving to snatch it right from beneath her nose. King Ben and Queen Belle sit on their thrones beside the wand case and wait for the event to start. The massive double doors are opened and Ben walks in, everyone turning to look at him, bowing at his presence. Scarlet struggles to bring herself to kneel but Jay pulls her down with him. Only letting her up when Ben stands in front of his parents. The Fairy Godmother takes the crown from Adam's head and holds it out in front of her. Ben kneels down, anxiously waiting for the headmistress to crown him. The villain kids can see Mal from where she stands by the King's throne, although she isn't excited to take the wand as they'd expected. Instead, she bites her lip and looks down at her hands.

The crown is gracefully set on Ben's head and Adam lifts off the glass dome covering the wand, Belle grasping it from its upright position and handes it to the Fairy Godmother. Mal looks up at them and Scarlet stares back intensely. 'Grab it!' she thinks, too far away to run for it herself. "Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy for as long as you shall reign?" Ben nods, "I do solemnly swear." Scarlet taps her foot on the floor and her fingers on the railing 'Just grab it, already!' "Then, it is my honour and joy to bless our new King-" The wand is snatched from the Fairy Godmother's hand sending gasps across the throne room. Jane, the daughter of the Fairy Godmother herself, stands holding the wand, unable to keep still with how strong the power is. A bright beam of light blasts out of it and shines through one of the open windows in the direction of the Isle. With all the chaos going on, Scarlet finds it appropriate to start running down to where Jane is. "If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself!" She desperately tries to control the wand but it appears much too powerful for her, throwing her around and pulling her along.

Mal grabs the wand from Jane's grasp and pulls it away from her. Scarlet's face cracks into a grin, eager to make a run for it with Mal and the others. "Mal, give me the wand." Ben rushes to block Mal from his parents, holding his hand out for the wand. "Don't!"
Scarlet yells, running to stand directly behind her friend. "Stand back!" Ben tries to grab the wand. "Ben, I said, stand back!" She yells again. Evie, Carlos, and Jay come rushing towards them, careful not to get too close. "I told you so!" Audrey can't help but rub in how right she was. Mal points the wand in her direction, immediately shutting her up and making everyone shriek in fear. "You really wanna do this?" Ben puts his hands up in surrender.
