After Hearst had interrupted us, I headed out to the garden. The house itself was quite overwhelming, but the garden seemed much more welcoming. As soon as I stepped through the glass doors to the tiled patio I was welcomed by a few small glass tables between some wooden rocking chairs with cushions looking out at the garden. As I turned to shut the door behind me, I saw that there was a tall trellis with many different colored roses climbing up it. Looking out away from the house, the first thing that caught my eye was a gravel pathway with arches above it that were covered in leaves and flowers leading deeper into the center of the garden. As I walked down the path, I saw that each side of the path was lined with perfectly symmetrical rows of white hydrangea. They were all the same size, shape, and distance apart, not a leaf or flower out of place.

"What are you doing out here?" said a voice from behind me. I spun around to find Duce standing right behind me. I let out a sigh of relief that it wasn't another guest and just shrugged.

"I just needed to get away from the crowd for a few minutes. How'd you get away from Hearst?" I looked up at him and put my hand in my pockets, becoming gradually more aware of the cool night breeze.

"I told him I needed to find you for dinner."

"Is it already that late?" I was a little disappointed that we couldn't stay and walk around out here for a bit. I didn't really want to go back inside with all those people.

"Come on," Duce took my hand from my pocket and leaned down to kiss it, "we can come back out here after," he smiled as he looked up at me. I felt my face turning red and cleared my throat, looking away.

"Let's get on with it then," I muttered as Duce stood up to his full height and brushed the creases from his jacket. When he was finished, I turned to head back to the mansion but before I could start walking he grabbed my arm and pulled it back. I turned back towards him and I just stared at him for a good few seconds, taking in how handsome he looked in the suit because after tonight, I probably wouldn't see him in another one.

"Everything okay?" I finally asked. He blinked quickly a few times, almost like he was snapping out of a trance.

"Yeah, I just... never mind," He looked back at the mansion. I brought my hand to his face and tilted it downwards so that now he was looking straight at me.

"Everything will be okay," I smiled as I leaned into him and kissed him.

"Yeah," he smiled, but it was almost like he wasn't all there. I hated seeing him like this, and knowing I couldn't do anything to help him.

"Let's start heading back," I said as I reached out for his hand. He took my hand in his and held it tightly as we walked back through the garden back to the house.
